I got the opportunity today to share my passion for agriculture with my friends from Kannapolis, Ty and his brother. This was their first time getting a glimpse into what it takes to feed this country first hand. The excitement on their faces was priceless.

Moving the herd to a new paddock, the calves are looking great.

We use a form of intensive grazing to grow as much nutrient dense grass as possible for the cow calf pairs by keeping the grass at a desired size for rapid growth. By dividing pastures into smaller paddocks we are able to move the herd frequently to avoid parasitic fly larvae, distribute manure more evenly to build healthier soil and decrease the use of artificial fertilizers.

When it comes to lean and easy to cook cuts of beef, it's hard to beat the sirloin tip roast. It comes from the rump and hind legs, which are more muscular. The lower fat content makes it less tender, so it's perfect for cooking slowly!

Here at Helms Farm we are a cow calf operation raising both purebred Black Angus and Simmental cattle. We also raise half bloods to capitalize on the benefits both breeds have to offer, adding marbling, size and carcass quality. We offer both seed stock and replacement heifers as well quality freezer beef.
