Here’s is a big windrow stocked with countless pounds of worms for spring shipments. We’ve been shipping worms by the thousands every week and we’re doing a great job meeting the demand. Also pictured is mortar trays with sifted compost. Worms are fed/held in those trays right before shipment. This ensures healthy worms that are ready to get right to work once you receive them. Thanks for ordering from NC Worms!

Worm farming pro tip- deer corn.
Are you looking to breed lots of red wigglers and don’t have access to large amounts of food scraps? Deer corn is inexpensive and can be milled into plain cornmeal. This feedstock does an excellent job of making red wigglers breed quickly. Here I’ve fed all of my outside worm beds with deer corn. Our outside red wiggler farm is quite extensive now.
By the way, we’ve been receiving lots of orders as of late. We have shipped 8,000 worms over the past couple of days and it’s not even put a tiny dent in our population. All of that hard work we put in during the off season is paying off.

Worm farming pro tip- when feeding a large amount of manure to a worm bed, only pile it up on one side. That way, if the manure heats up the worms can back off to cooler parts of the bed and won’t get killed by the heat generated from the manure decomposing.
Once the manure cools off, the worms can move in and consume it. Only feed large amounts of manure to beds with no lid, so the excess heat from the manure can escape. You must avoid needless heat buildup in worm beds for most of the year, as temperatures above 95 degrees can be lethal for red worms.

When you are a worm farmer, a dark and rainy day is best when it comes to feeding outdoor worm beds. These conditions bring the worms to the surface of the bed, where they can rapidly consume their food. Here’s my farm hand Kingston feeding corn to the red wiggler beds. We work hard to produce worms for customers in the Carolinas and beyond.
