We have been a little quieter than usual lately, and we wanted to officially introduce you to the reason why. Meet Silas, the newest member of the Green Harvest Gardens family!

As much as we love being out in the dirt, this season has been all about a different kind of growth. Because mami and papi have been busy with a newborn, we have made the intentional choice to scale back our operations this year.

Usually, our hands are full of seeds and soil, but right now, they are full of this little guy. While we might not be at full capacity, we are still here, still growing, and learning how to balance farm life with our newest addition.

Thank you for sticking with us as we navigate this beautiful, busy season of life. We are taking it a bit slower, pre-watering our beds, and enjoying every sunny moment with our official harvest inspector.

Welcome back to another episode of PLANTS GONE WILD here at Green Harvest Gardens!

Look, we usually have a plan, but this Mullein clearly had its own ideas. (Slipper for scale, because this thing is basically a small continent now). She is the definition of a wild child, doing exactly what she wants, where she wants.

Even though she’s living her best "wild" life, we still step in as the "responsible parents." We make sure to prune her back before she has a chance to flower. These are very invasive if mishandled. We’re focused on that incredible taproot and those massive, fuzzy medicinal leaves, so we harvest them at their peak to keep all that energy exactly where we want it!

WHY SHE IS OUR FAVORITE "WILD" RESIDENT THIS WEEK:
⛏️ ROLLING IN THE DEEP: That taproot is like a living drill, mining for nutrients deep in our Zone 8B soil.

🍵 MEDICINAL MAGIC: From respiratory support to traditional wellness, those soft leaves are a powerhouse.

☁️ NATURE'S VELVET: She might look tough, but she’s the softest thing in the garden!

She’s huge, she’s fuzzy, and she’s definitely gone wild, but we’re loving every bit of it.

Is your garden behaving this week, or do you have a wild child like our Mullein taking over?

We’ve all seen the late-night infomercials, but at Green Harvest Gardens, we’re dealing with a different kind of chaos, Plants Gone Wild.

Look, we know how to use a pair of shears. We know the "proper" way to prune and shape a Lavender bush to keep it tidy and professional. But then there’s THIS one.

She’s our resident wild child. She doesn’t follow the garden plan, she doesn't care about "clean lines," and she clearly hasn't met a trellis post she didn't want to climb. She does what she wants, when she wants—and honestly? With those purple spikes catching the sun, we can’t even be mad at her.
Sometimes you just have to put the pruners down and let nature show off.

✂️Are you a "strict pruner," or do you have a wild child in your garden that refuses to be tamed?

Tell us which plant is currently breaking all your rules!

TN Nursery is bringing the flower power! My order is arriving today, fingers crossed 🤞🏽 TN Nursery has the best deals. I could've grown some of the varieties from seed, but my food forest is screaming for pollinator snacks like yesterday. Now I'll be sipping summer vibes with healthy plants. TN Nursery

Is it wood or is it a wing? 🪵🦋

Take a close look at the shape of this visitor I found at GHG today. This is a Large Paectes Moth, and it’s a master of "cryptic posture."

Notice how it doesn't lay flat like a typical moth? It arches its body and tufts its "shoulders" to create a jagged, blocky silhouette. When it sits on a tree, it looks exactly like a broken twig or a rough piece of bark. Nature doesn't just use color to hide; it uses geometry!

The best part? It is NOT a pest. 🌿 These specialists stick almost entirely to Sweetgum trees. So, unless you’re trying to grow a pristine Sweetgum forest, they are just a harmless (and very cool) part of our local ecosystem.

We've been chasing the dream of a food forest for what feels like an eternity, and now that it's finally within reach, we're over the moon. Sure, it's taken forever, and there have been plenty of setbacks along the way. But the payoff is so, so sweet – watching our hard work come to life, and getting to enjoy the fruits of our labor (literally). 🌳🍉🍍🍇🥑🌳

ITS PEACH SEASON 🍑. Peaches are a fantastic fruit. They're not only delicious but also packed with nutrients. They're a good source of vitamins A and C, and they're also high in fiber.

South Carolina is actually a major peach producer in the United States. In fact, it's second only to California in terms of production.
