Before you complain about someone’s prices, you should buy a cow.

Before you tell someone their milk, meat, soap, cheese, produce, etc. is over-priced, you should buy land.

Buy land. Pay for infrastructure. Buy a cow. Train the cow. Pay to Feed the cow. Care for the cow. Learn to milk the cow. Actually milk the cow. Cry over milk the cow kicked and spilled everywhere. Cry over your sick cow while you sit up all night with the vet. Stay up all night with your cow.

Before you complain about someone’s prices, show up. Show up every day. Even when it’s 106*. Even when there’s a hurricane. Even when it’s hailing. Even when it’s freezing and your hands don’t work right. Even when you only got one hour of scattered sleep the night before.

This post is not to complain, I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. But it’s important that everyday people understand what they are paying for. Small farms like ours don’t get government subsidies. We pay for everything out of pocket. Before you make a comment about prices think this through. I genuinely believe people make these comments out of ignorance, not to be ugly or rude.

Farmers pay for their products with their lives. Time, blood, energy, emotion, no days off. Most of us don’t break even, much less make a profit. We do this because we believe there is a better way.

When you buy local, you pay for more than the soap or milk or produce in your hands.

Before you complain. Buy a cow. Or goats. or grow a large garden.

Just be mindful.

For the first time ever, Rock River Farm will have some of our healthy, hearty, homegrown chickens for sale!

All birds are pasture raised, free to roam dawn to dusk, and raised without antibiotics or chemicals. These birds would be great as a starter flock or to add to an existing flock! No individual sales. Must purchase 2+. On-site pickup between Foley and Milaca.

Homestead Jersey Milk Cow

Nellie is a 5 year old Jersey milk cow (DOB 3/18/17). She is bred for a September calf (milk test and vet check confirmed pregnant) and is currently dry in preparation for her calf. Nellie is bred to an Angus bull. This will be her fourth calf. Always the first one at the gate and stands nicely to be milked. Nellie has been hand milked and machine milked. No health issues and easy to milk. She has kept weight on nicely on hay with only a small grain portion while she is in the stanchion. She definitely has genetic potential for a grass fed milk cow. She is quiet and prefers to follow instead of being led. She would make a nice addition to a homestead. Her feet were trimmed in April. She is good around other cows, goats, chickens, ducks, kids, and dogs.

Even though we've had a milk cow for over a year, this is our first time experiencing the full benefits of a milk cow on grass! Last year, Mabel was doing such a good job feeding Barney that we never got any cream! Now, we're truly seeing how wonderfully different green grass butter is!!

They sprayed the fields behind our property last night. A pre-treat spraying for their GMO corn or soy seeds that will soon be planted. 🤢🤮

Today, my 13-year-old started finding them.
The bees.
You find their tiny little bodies everywhere after the toxic spraying.
Bumblebees.
Honey bees.
Carpenter Bees.

And this chemical that killed them... this sh*t is all over your food.
It’s also all over the food fed to the animals in factory farms.
The animals you eat.

Stop supporting farming that uses this sh*t.

Stop. Spraying. This. Sh*t.

We are completely OUT of our DUCK egg cartons! If you have one that has not been returned, please shoot us a message to set up a return!

We reuse our cartons to keep costs as low as possible. Egg cartons (especially duck egg cartons) are EXPENSIVE and it is not a good use of resources to buy cartons frequently.

If you have JUMBO chicken egg cartons, those also work for our duck eggs. Anything smaller will not fit these giant eggs! We do not need large/extra large chicken egg cartons thanks to our weekly customers!

Spring feels like it’s just ramping up. Even though we’ve had a major temperature drop this week, the hope of warm weather seems to be awakening everyone. Springtime means babies are here or will soon be here 💕 chicks are hatching, seeds are started, and Hilda is close to calving!

After a long winter break, the girls are back to laying!! Duck eggs are BACK! 🥳

Our pasture raised ducks are happy and healthy! Weekly pickups are welcome! About double the size of chicken eggs, duck eggs make fluffier baked goods and taste delicious!

Both are Ancona X Khaki Campbell that we hatched May 1st 2021. Both are very sweet boys with absolutely no aggression towards people/dogs/cats or other birds. Lived with mixed chicken/duck flock. First picture is current, second and third pictures are them as babies.

Always raised on pasture. Located between Foley and Milaca. Can meet in Princeton, Elk River, or Anoka on Friday afternoon (4/1). $5/each.
