🌼πŸ₯ Spring Chickens πŸ₯🌼

First hatch of the season and it came with an assortment of colors. The moms are Easter egger, and black s*x link. Dad is a Rhode Island Red. We will be starting another round next week and I can’t wait to see what that hatching brings us.

🍬🍠 Sweet Potatoes 🍠🍬

Finally starting to get slips in sweet potato patch. I’ve grown these successfully in buckets but in order to have a real supply, I know I need to learn how to get them from the ground. This will be my first year and I’m sure this going to be a learning curve, but putting in the work now is necessary for the success later.

🍠🍠 Sweet Potato Slips 🍠🍠

Step 1: Cut your sweet potatoes in half and put them in soil or water. I’ve done both methods and they both work, your best method is going to depend on your areas weather conditions.

Step 2: When slips reach about 5 to 10 inches, remove them from the potato at the base and place them in water. I usually do this process in the garage under grow lights, or by window that gets atleast 6-8 hours of sunlight.

Step 3(optional): Once you have a good root system going, plant them in something before putting them outside to establish the roots in soil.

Step 4: Once the last frost has passed, let the ground warm for a couple weeks. Plant the slips as deep as you can only leaving about 4-6 inches above the soil.

*I know a lot of people like to grow sweet potatoes in containers or bags. You can follow the same process and get similar results. I like to grow in the ground because I like to keep things as natural as possible, plus it’s the cheapest way to do it lol.

πŸœπŸ› Ants Vs. Grubs πŸ›πŸœ

I get bit on occasion, but nothing compares to having that natural protection. Not only do they protect your plants, they help loosen compact soil, and can even increase the fertility of your soil.

πŸ§„πŸ’‘ Garlic Bulbs πŸ’‘πŸ§„

I remember struggling and ending up with nothing, now I’m bringing in enough to last the whole year. Nobody is telling you that the learning curve isn’t steep, but it’s a reward at the end if you choose to ride that wave.
