Supplier Spotlight: Tonnellerie Billon, Damy & Les Hospices de Beaune 🍷🇫🇷
In Burgundy, some traditions go far beyond w**emaking.
Dating back to 1443, the historic Hospices de Beaune has become a symbol of Burgundy's heritage, bringing together exceptional vineyards, generations of craftsmanship, and one of the world's most celebrated charity w**e auctions.
Today, under the direction of Ludivine Griveau, the estate's first female w**emaker in over 570 years, the Hospices continues to honor its history while embracing a modern approach to w**emaking.
And two of our longtime cooperage partners, Tonnellerie Billon and Tonnellerie Damy, play an important role in that story.
Based in Meursault, Damy has become the exclusive cooperage partner for the Hospices' Chardonnay cuvées, while Billon has a longstanding relationship with its Pinot Noir program.
In 2024, Billon was entrusted with crafting the prestigious Pièce des Présidents, the charity barrel at the heart of the annual auction. Made from Bertranges oak, the barrel held a Beaune Premier Cru Les Bressandes that ultimately sold for an impressive €360,000!
From the historic Hôtel-Dieu to the modern cellars of Beaune, these partnerships are a reminder that Burgundy's greatest traditions continue to evolve through the people and craftsmanship behind every barrel.
