Two weeks ago, was one of the biggest emotional rollercoasters we’ve had on the farm.

We said goodbye to not one, but two of our beloved goats. Losing them has left a hole in our hearts, and the farm feels a lot quieter without them.

After a sudden illness and tremendous efforts to help, we lost Umbra at only 4 years old. While there are not supposed to be favorites, Umbra knew she was one my favorite girls ever. She was crazy, loving, sweet and truly my shadow - just wanted to be hanging out with people. This has been one of the hardest and most devastating losses. It is not the same without this girl around, I still look for her everyday.

The day after we lost Umbra, our older lady Swan crossed the rainbow bridge at 12 1/2 years old. Swan was such a go with the flow goat, always just hanging out, loved being in front of the fan and being with her goat friends. She was always one of the first ones to want to come out and was the best weeder we ever had.

At the same time, life has a way of bringing new beginnings when you least expect them. We welcomed a sweet new donkey to the farm, and while nothing can replace the animals we’ve lost, we’re grateful for the joy and hope this new little face has already brought.

Meet Paul the mini donkey. Paul is an amazing little guy, who just wants his butt scratched and to be with people, we fell in love with him instantly and so far, he has become a new best friend to me.

Farm life is full of incredible highs and heartbreaking lows and these two losses have definitely taken a big toll and us and led to extra snuggles to our new friend Paul.
