Monarch tagging season has officially come to an end here at Roundstone. This year, we tagged 892 monarchs!

We’re always so amazed to see all the butterflies that pass through our farm and for the opportunity to contribute to research that helps us better understand and protect these incredible pollinators.

Have you seen any Heath Aster blooming near you?

Heath Aster (Symphyotrichum pilosum) is a native perennial that produces clusters of small white flowers with yellow centers in the fall.

This shrubby late bloomer is often found in prairies, roadsides, and other sunny areas. Because it blooms so late in the growing season, it is a valuable late-season resource for pollinators.

Just in time for fall!

We’re kicking off the season with this production field of Indian Grass. This golden display has us LOVING fall already!

Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans) is a native, perennial warm-season bunchgrass known for its plume-like seedheads and its value for wildlife habitat. It provides cover, nesting habitat, food, and protection for wildlife.

A lot happens behind the scenes to make this transformation happen….

From propagation and growing to careful monitoring, timing, and everything in between, producing native seed takes time. It also takes knowledge and lots of hands-on work from our team. Those small plugs aren’t even the beginning!

New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) is a tall, native perennial known for its bright purple flowers and late-season blooms that can extend into November around here.
Beyond the splash of color it adds to the fall landscape, it provides an important nectar source for bees and other pollinators and even cover for wildlife!
What you see in bloom is the result of a lot of hard work that happens long before those flowers appear.
