We kicked off Memorial Day weekend by having our family down to enjoy the day together.

We got some flowers planted at the farm sign and took Dad some new flowers as well topped off with some grilling and the kids spent the afternoon playing.

Dad would’ve been tickled having all of the grandkids down and watching them play.

We hope you all have a safe and great weekend! 🇺🇸

The second round of rain ended up sliding SE of us last night, we did end up with a few, light showers throughout the over night hours that amounted to around a tenth of additional rain for a total of 2.6” total.

Bruce and I ventured out last evening to open up some of the ditches to help the water drain faster in those areas.

I’ll probably go around again today to clear them again from the buildup of the corn trash but doing a quick drive by this morning, the levels have come down some.

It’s crucial to try and get the water down as soon as possible to give the seeds and plants a chance in these areas where we can assist in getting the water drained off to the best of our ability.

Results of the first round of rain.

Moist.

We made it through the first round of storms so far this evening. Ended up getting 2.5” in a little under and hour or so.

Looks like another round might come through around 6-7pm.

We got VE corn!

Our 109 day corn that was planted 9.5 days ago has emerged (VE). While a good amount has emerged, we have areas and spots where it hasn’t and I believe it’s because the moisture level appears to be all over the place, even within a few feet of each other. The corn that hasn’t emerged has either just begun to sprout or not at all yet and is in completely dry dirt. The seedling depth between the two stages of our corn is nearly the same so I don’t think it’s planting related with uneven depths.

We did, unexpectedly, receive 0.25” of rain last night and with more (hopefully nothing too severe) on the way this morning and later this afternoon into overnight.

Our corn-on-corn in the south field has spots of corn just beginning to emerge or are incredibly close to emerging while again, some seeds are just beginning to sprout or are just laying in dry dirt.

I’m excited about this 109 day corn for a few reasons. It’s a new number from Golden Harvest (G09M19-AA) with a lot of promise and is the longest maturity corn we’ve planted on our farm, to my knowledge. It has great scoring on seedling vigor and emergence, drought tolerance, dry down and test weight to name a few. It comes with their Agrisure Above (AA) ground insect protection and I can’t wait to see how it performs on my acres this year.

Soybean Note: We got the beans drilled between Tuesday-Wednesday afternoon this past week and as of last night, the seeds have begun to sprout as well! 3-4 days post planting. I was pleasantly surprised to see, at least in the area I checked, moisture down in the seedbed.

And with that, plant 2026 has come to an end.

My cousin Mark finished drilling our beans earlier this evening. The weather was beautiful today and I’m kicking myself for completely spacing off getting some drone footage of him drilling.

We’re coming up on a week of the corn being in the ground and I plan to make a video going out checking on how it’s coming.

We’ve got some decent chances for moisture this weekend, Sunday-Monday. God willing, we will catch some needed moisture to give everything a good start.

Got the girls turned out into the big yard. Safe to say they’ve got their work cut out for them.

Took my other girls out to check on the corn and in the field that was planted Friday, we have sprouts!

Hannah wasn’t too excited but I’d say she was relaxin’ pretty good

🌼 Happy Mothers Day 🌼

Without our amazing, incredible mothers here at Hunhoff Heritage Farm, we would not have made it to 120 years.

While each generation faced their own challenges and obstacles, our mothers have been the foundation in keeping things running. From birthing and raising the next generations to cooking and keeping the house in order to wearing many many caps to help in any way they can to keep the farm going.

We take this day to stop and reflect on the selflessness and sacrifices made by our mothers.

From all of us at Hunhoff Heritage Farm, we want to wish ALL mothers a very happy and beautiful Mothers Day.

✨ Happy National Christmas Lights Day! ✨

There’s something special about this time of year on the farm — the short days, crisp air, and that warm glow of Christmas lights starting to shine across the countryside.

Out here, those lights aren’t just decorations… they’re a reminder of hope, tradition, and the simple joy of slowing down to appreciate the season. Whether it’s a lit-up barn, a tree in the yard, or just a string of lights in the window, it all brings a little extra cheer to the farm.

From all of us at Hunhoff Heritage Farm, we hope the lights you hang this season brighten your home as much as they brighten ours. 🌟

🎄 From Our Fields to Your Table — and from our family to yours — may your Christmas season be merry and bright.
