This morning‘s winter squash hunt. If you haven’t yet, try one of our butternut, spaghetti or acorn squashes. The butternut tastes great baked, grilled, cubed or added to soups. Look for recipe idea cards at the stand.
Cooler weather coming this week. It’s a great time to grow your own lettuce. We have veggie plants as well as herbs. Shop at the stand or schedule a time with Christine (512-718-1443) to come up to the greenhouse.

Incorporating the use of cover crops here at Utopia Organic Gardens. Another method for building and maintaining soil health. Planted this cereal rye from Native American Seed right before the rains last week. Great germination and hopefully future forage for our livestock!

Okra and tomatoes are both heavy feeders and have different water needs, but this volunteer sungold tomato plant is enjoying the remaining stalks in our okra patch. It’s a great trellis!

It rained here on the farm this afternoon, thankful for a surprise shower! It's been challenging keeping things alive in this lingering heat. Our winter squash crops are coming along, though. Fresh harvest of butternut, honeynut and acorn squash.
Basil is alive and well too. We grow several different varieties on the farm including genovese, lemon, cinnamon and persian which we blend into fresh pesto. Made in small batches right after harvesting. If there happens to be a jar when you come by the stand (they are gone quickly), give it a try!

Luffas are back at the stand! This vining plant is closely related to cucumbers and squash. The fruit is green and edible when young, but we allow ours to mature and dry out resulting in eco-friendly scrubbing pads. We will have luffa soap sponges made with homemade milk soap later this fall.

Tomato plants now available at the stand. We also have some pepper plants and herbs. It’s still hot out, but it’s a great time to get tomatoes planted for a fall harvest. The plants love it as the weather cools.
We had a great harvest of sweet potatoes this year in our newest garden area. Lots of different sizes, but our favorites are the little ones. Cook super fast in an air fryer, tender and creamy.

Tomato plants ready soon for fall gardeners! Cherry, Juliet, Better Boy and Cherokee Purple varieties. Plants will be available in half gallon pots for quicker production. We also have a small selection of squash and cucumber plants. Cool crop plants for sale later this month and into September. As August begins, we start planning and looking forward to our fall gardens. The heat has limited the variety currently at the stand, but there are still items to enjoy. At the stand this weekend: okra, sweet potatoes (orange and purple flesh), onions, cucumbers, summer squash, winter squash, peppers, pickles and baked goods. Limited amount of eggs (our girls don’t like it when it gets hot!). Contact Christine (512-718-1443) with any questions.
