As wild game season gets rolling, we wanted to share a few tips to make the process of bringing your wild game to us as smooth as possible.

🦌 AVAILABILITY: We are available nearly 24/7 to accept game BUT there are times when we aren’t on site. Give us as much lead time as you can so we can be at the shop when you arrive. Please note that we are all at church from 9-12 on Sunday mornings.

🦌 SCHEDULING: For scheduled, bigger game hunts like elk, it’s best if you call us ahead of the hunt to reserve your space.
For deer, just call or text us as soon as you can and give us an ETA on your arrival.

🦌 CARCASS CARE: All game must be skinned and gutted, with heads and hooves removed. Dirty, hairy or mismanaged carcasses will not be accepted. It’s best to leave the tendons on so we can hang your animal.

🦌 TAGS: We cannot accept any wild game without the appropriate tags, please don’t forget to bring that with you! Tags can be validated at our shop.

🥩Solano County Fair Carcass Contest and New Award Announcement!!! 🥩

The Napa-Solano Cattlemen’s and Woolgrowers Association, in conjunction with Gates Ranch Meat Company, is very pleased to announce the 2026 Solano County Fair Beef Carcass Contest Results!

1st place - Emma Mason, Vaca Valley Grange
2nd place - Levi Wemple
3rd place - Jessie Means

🎉 Emma also raised the steer that won the carcass contest for this year’s Dixon May Fair. Congrats to Emma on this MAJOR accomplishment!

🥇 We are also very excited to announce that, in addition to the customary belt buckle award, the carcass contests winners for the Dixon May Fair, Solano County Fair and Napa County Fair will now each receive a $1,000 cash award sponsored by the Napa-Solano Cattlemen’s and Woolgrowers Association and Gates Ranch Meat Company, in memory of Joe Gates.

Joe Gates was a huge advocate for youth in agriculture, serving as auctioneer at many of the local Junior Livestock auctions and often taking kids under his wing and helping them with their fair projects. He was the proud owner of Gates Ranch Meat Company before his passing in 2021 and, being a cattle rancher and active member of the Cattlemen’s Association himself, always held the carcass contest results in very high regard. We are very grateful to be able to honor his legacy in this way and look forward to continuing to serve the agricultural youth in our area.

📣Dixon May Fair Carcass Contest Results!!📣

The Napa-Solano Cattlemen’s and Woolgrowers Association is pleased to announce the 2026 Dixon May Fair Beef Carcass Contest Results!

1st place - Emma Mason, Vaca Valley Grange
2nd place - Zane Brown
3rd place - Emmanuel Cisneros

Congrats to Emma on this huge accomplishment- Emma’s steer also did well at the live show, earning Reserve Supreme Champion!

Great job to everyone that raised a steer at the Dixon May Fair. They all looked great at the fair and the ones that came through our shop were 🤩.

IT’S AUCTION DAY down at the Solano County Fair!!!! Come on over and support the youth of agriculture. There are 197 lots of high quality lambs, hogs, beef, goats, turkeys, rabbits and poultry to bid on!

As the animals from the Dixon May Fair start rolling through our doors, we want to say a special THANK YOU to everyone that supported the exhibitors at last weekends Junior Livestock Auction. It’s a privilege to be part of such an incredible community that provides such strong support to the Ag. Youth in our area!

And to those that sent your animals to us for processing - THANK YOU! We know you have another great option and we very much appreciate your business. We have over 100 animals to process in the next 3 weeks 😅- please be ready to give us your cutting instructions in the next few days and make plans now if you don’t already have freezer space ready - prompt pickup is very much appreciated and needed to keep us running smoothly. Thank you!!

🎡 On that note, Be sure to check out the Dixon May Fair and Solano County Fair Junior Livestock Auctions! It’s a great way to support our Ag youth in our community and fill your freezer!

🐷 Lastly, if you’re interested in a 1/2 or whole hog share, we have access to a few hogs that will be ready for processing at the end of April. Approx. $3.75/lb (includes animal + processing, excludes smoking fees). Call for more info or to reserve your share!
