I am going to be teaching an 'Intro to Hydro' class at 9am to 11am this Sunday (when it's cool out) at Brick N Barn. My goal is to give 1) broad overview of systems (I have sample systems for you to see not just hear about) 2) my real life experience (3) answers for your questions and 4) show you a simple system that you can create (without spending lots of money) that will pretty much take care of itself and get you started growing and feeding yourself and others. You can make reservations at 760-651-2635, seats are limited.

Some background: After retirement, in 2018 I completed course work at Cal Poly, Pomona. I received a certificate.in hydroponics (but as I will share, the real learning is in the doing). Here is a fun little video to show our start in 2018.

Ok we changed our description from Café to Bakery. Why? Because someone out there did not want you to have a free cup of coffee when you stopped by and reported us, so weird! Who knew that could be a violation to give neighbors a cup of coffee? Oh well......BYBC

Survey says.....

I would like to get your opinion and advise. Many of you have come to our Motherload Farm and we have so enjoyed your community spirit. That is actually what we wanted for the effort we have put forth. There is no BIG money in what we are doing. If that is what we wanted, we had substantial careers that would have yielded an abundance in dollars. But the old saying is true, money can’t buy you love.

At just shy of seventy we invested time and retirement resources to get a degree in hydroponics to be able to grow food for our community, got a cottage kitchen license so that we could preserve food, bake all night, and created a lovely space for us all to be together in. Then, some soul or soulless person got “triggered” and turned us in to every agency they could think of. Today the county health inspector came, she of course was just doing her job, someone complained. The violations that she found were that we were providing a free cup of coffee to you and that we must put ingredient labels on each pastry and all pastries must be in a sealed bags even though we keep pastry in a case or clear sealed pastry bags. For this we did not get a warning, we were fined $200. That seems a little unfair, but ok rules are rules for some of us. However, how many others are violation on every corner of VC? When I asked about the “others” I was told they were all illegal, they knew it and my option was to file a complaint against them. Really?

Anyway, I digress, I will return to my question. What is your opinion and what is your advise because this will not end with us not giving you coffee and packaging pastry. We ask you this question in all sincerity, we need to make some decisions for our future and our lives. Is it worth it and if it is can you tell us anything that might help? Our best to you, Susan and Jack

Here is link to see our garden starts that will be available soon. I have always found buying plant starts that were started in cooler environments suffered in our hot sun. No, we are not a big box store and don’t have everything but perhaps we have what you need? If you would like to suggest future plants and others are interested too, I will see what I can do.
