Busy day yesterday , by now the “Columbiana” fruit have all been snatched up I’ll bet. These are truly tropical and take 180 days to go from flower bud to fruit. I’ve been surprised that we’ve been able to get fruit here. Likely due to the warm winter. I’m planting more and carefully protecting them from both winter cold and summer heat. Next year, maybe we will have more to share. Similar to “Palora”, they have a refreshing sweet flavor. Covered with spines, that need to be brushed off at harvest, they are tricky to produce , but worth it for the flavor. This fruit predates “Palora”, and unfortunately Ecuador beat Columbia in the battle over markets. So now you only see Palora in grocery stores. Last Picture shows a “ yellow undatus”, a distinct species related to the more common dragon fruit. You’ll see more of both coming up this season .

Good morning Rancho friends ! Getting ready for the heat advisory , over a week of 100f days, covering as much as we can. Stay hydrated and watch for signs of heat exhaustion if you’re out working . Looks like the Palora is getting closer to harvest !
