05/24/2026 Today was a perfect day weather wise as we have had so much rain, wind and clouds and this is always a concern when shearing day is approaching. This has been one of the wettest springs in along time and I now think we are on our way to a hot summer.

Here are the photos BEFORE shearing, DURING shearing and AFTER shearing.

Thank you Trevor and Ethan for making the yearly trip to the states from Australia to help out so many farms make their animals look spectacular no matter their age, if they are show animals or retired and enjoying their life. You made 14 animals feel better and cooler in 2.50 hours and they are now ready for the summer months.

Our very good friends/family who have helped us for so many years in showing up faithfully and taking on their roles of making every part of the shearing go as smoothly as can be. This could never be done like this without every single one of you. April, Jeff, Julie, Shelley, Laura, Karen, Kirby, Tim, Jim and myself.

Olivia brought Felix who will be 21 years old next week. Felix you are looking so good and we hope you have a great summer and will see you again next year. Not sure how old 21 is in alpaca years but thats a great life.

Eric popped in to see the progress. Brenda was sorely missed but we will catch up with your fiber.

05/23/2026. Trevor and Ethan will be shearing at Melody Lane Farm tomorrow. If anyone is interested in raw fiber it will be vacuumed, brushed and sorted into 3 bags for purchase. Please be aware that the raw fiber will only be on the premises for a very short time as it will then be shipped to the mill for processing

05/11/2026 Shearing Day is two weeks away. I for one have been glad that the animals are still in full fleece as we have had a colder and damp spring so far. This week and next should feel more summer like and by then they will be looking handsome with their summer cuts.

04/24/2026 We are one month away from shearing. Animals are looking forward to it as the weather is shaping up with lots of sun and warmer temps. Maestro is ready for some fun in the sun and reminds you to wear your sunglasses and sunscreen!

Everyone enjoyed the dryer balls for their Christmas present.
I wanted to share a text from my daughter-in-law. They have no kids, so their cats ARE their kids. I gave them the kitty balls......

"The cleaners came yesterday so I put all the cat toys in their basket…

Last night ,Merrie ( their cat" brought up both alpaca balls. One at bedtime to play with in our room and the other in the middle of the night she brought it to our bed (meowing) as a present for us while we slept 😂

Truly the best cat present ever!"

01/24/2026. As we all hunker down for this very cold weekend and continued week with very frigid temps and winds, Maestro is doing the same

He is wrapped in 100% Alpaca and the blanket is his mom’s fiber (Mercedes) and I hope he understands she will keep him warm as he kushes down in the hay!

He stood like a champ never moving or complaining as I wrapped the vet tape around him and Jim fed him cookies! He has “IT” and always will.

So everyone do like Maestro and wrap up in your favorite blanket. Hopefully it is Alpaca but if not an old acrylic man made one will do

Maestro said he is waiting for the sun and a bit warmer temps like in the 70s so that the grass will grow and pastures will soon be open

Hunker down and relax!!

12/24/2025. Merry Christmas and Peaceful new year to all of you who are sharing family time, recovering from an illness, alone, sad or happy. Remember you are not alone as we remember what this holiday season really means. The birth of our savior who came down from heaven to die for our sins. He is always with us and if you ask for his help he will give it to you.

This year has been one of the hardest challenges for so many and it has made many of us change and see things differently. Staying positive and not concentrating on yourself while helping others may assist with some of that. We are here to do the best we can with the gifts that were given to us. Use them to teach, learn more and move forward with a full heart.

Thank you all for supporting Melody Lane Farm this year and our animals. We cannot continue without you and as our animals age just like the rest of us we look forward to a new year to once again have you come to our farm and visit.

12/20/2025. Santa does not just visit little boys and girls who have been good all year, he also takes care of the animals and that is why he is so busy and needs so much help. He loves visiting all the 2 and 4 leggeds each year! Make sure the kids put out the cookies and spiked eggnog!
