It is April 24th and it is snowing.

I am done. I cannot do this anymore.

The snow was gone. The snowmobiles are put away yet my kids are talking about going snowmobiling in what is essentially a light coating that would not support a hamster.

I did not sign up for this when I moved here

Anyway we are open, the oven is going, it is warm in here, and we have kolaches. Come in.

My oldest has decided this morning that if we ever have another baby her name should be Ovenbutt.

Honestly? She's not wrong. It has a certain ring to it. Very on brand. Probably destined to take over the family business one day.

We are open 7-1 today. Come see us. Ovenbutt is not here yet but the kolaches are.

If you are not taking advantage of your team's brains you are not doing yourself any favors.

Today we had a team meeting. I drove to St. Leonard, picked up gourmet burgers and fries from Pit Stop (go if you havent been), came back, and for an hour and forty five minutes Hollee, Danielle and I sat down and mapped out everything. Every recipe. Every pastry. Every batch. Who does what and when. A full production plan for the week built by the people who actually execute it every single day.

It was a working lunch and food covered. Because that is what their input is worth.

And here is what happened. Problems got solved faster than I could have solved them alone. Ideas came up that I never would have thought of. And by the end of it we had a plan that everyone understood and everyone had a hand in building.

That last part matters more than people realize. When your team is involved in the decisions they are not just following a list, they own it. And when they own it you stop being the person who has to manage every detail in everyones work lives which everyone really hates and you start being the person who gets to think, innovate, and actually move the business forward.

Include your people. Buy them lunch. Listen to them. They will make you better at this than you ever could be on your own.

So apparently we have been nominated for Best Bakery in Bangor Metro magazine.

We are choosing to be flattered by this even though there is a very real chance every bakery in Northern Maine is nominated and we are not actually that special. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

Regardless, if you feel like voting for us we would not be mad about it. We are already really busy so technically do not need the validation. But bragging rights are bragging rights and I am not above that.🙈🙈

Today we laminated 100 pounds of dough by hand to get ahead. This photo represents one of five tubs

Great plan. Very smart. Very proactive.

And then we did the math.

100 pounds does not even last us a full week. 🤣

We are not ahead. We were never ahead. The concept of ahead does not exist for us. We are simply people who make dough and then immediately need more dough.

At some point during this realization Danielle put down her rolling pin and told Hollee she was done. Hollee did not argue. Doubt she even had the words since she herself was spent. 🤣

We bought a sheeter. It arrives next week. We do not know if it will save us. We have stopped asking questions like that.
