Finishing up May! The field is all planted; dahlias are really taking off and I’m switching over to filling out a few spots in the cottage gardens and finishing up our vegetable planting.

Still absolutely loving these foxgloves! The bumblebees have been all over them and they’re slowly making seed pods. I’ll give them a couple more weeks and then plan on cutting them down so I get another flush later in summer.

Bouquet for this week is made up of:

Champion II Pink Campanula
Legend Double Pink Snapdragons
Blue Glitter Eryngium
Cherry Caramel Phlox
My Castle Lupine

Dahlias are already starting! These three are the some of the official first blooms and are all in the greenhouse, but the first couple field cuttings are also starting to bloom as well, so I suspect that I'll have all of those blooming by end of June/early July.

The last one (Jenny's Treasure) obviously isn't all the way open, but it's pretty cute even half-bloomed, so I threw in a photo of it! It's going to be a petite little bloom, and I'm really loving those gold tips!

3rd year seedlings got planted first this year and they're already 4 inches tall and growing like weeds! These ones are a few of several that I'm very excited to see again: the last one especially was a favorite of mine in bouquet work - I used it in a lot of bouquets last year. It was a great size, naturally long stems, bloomed early and often, worked well with a lot of colors, and held up in vase life as well! I'll be posting more later this year on the ones that will get released with more stats on each. (Also, still no names - I'm slow on naming things ya'll. 😉)

I'm also testing out a couple dozen with a friend in Connecticut and I'm excited to see how they do in a different climate this summer!

No music for this, just real life farm sounds and real life farm work. 😉

Reality of real intense work months, is that there simply isn’t enough time in the day, so things get prioritized quickly and weeding this tunnel was moved down the list in favor of shipping and planting our field. 8 weeks later…. The weeds are definitely harder to pull, but we got it done.

I have a few flower crops in here that will stay, but the rest of the tunnel is going to vegetables this summer instead of more flowers: my kids like cold pickled green beans, so we’ll plant a lot of those, plus a few other fun things they want to try! I know I don’t talk about the food we grow that much but we do quite a bit each year! We’re big on berries, so we have a lot of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries planted. Plus apple trees that make AMAZING fruit. And then vegetables: basil, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, pumpkins, corn, green beans, dill, lettuce and carrots. 🌱🌱 (I don’t ever plant zucchini because I always know a bunch of people who have too much of it by late summer. 😉)

2 years ago we got the keys to this new farm and it was probably the best birthday present I could ever have gotten. Since then, every year at the end of May, I get to turn one year older and be reminded of the incredible blessing of this farm that I love so much. 💐

Snapdragons are Legend Double Pink and the bouquet is made up of phlox, sweet peas, peonies, delphinium, ninebark, roses, ranunculus and snapdragons! 💐
