Bye bye dahlias 🌸

The last of the blooms were sold at our stand this week. We’ll be digging up half of our dahlias to divide and sell, while the rest stay tucked in the ground for earlier blooms next season.

Pumpkin party for the chickens! 🎃🐔 After the harvest, our flock gets to peck away at leftover pumpkins — tasty treats that keep them healthy and happy.

We got our garlic tucked into the soil today—just shy of 500 cloves planted! This year we’re growing two hardneck varieties: Spanish Rioja and Mt. Hood. Hardneck garlic varieties are known for their rich, complex flavor and their beautiful spring bonus: garlic scapes.

In early spring, each plant will send up a curling green shoot (the scape), which we’ll harvest before the bulbs mature. Scapes have a mild garlic flavor and make incredible pesto, stir-fry additions, or grilling toppers.

The bulbs themselves will continue growing underground through winter and spring, and we expect to pull them from the soil in early summer. Planting garlic is always a hopeful milestone—tucking something into the earth now that will be harvested in the warmth of next year. And now, we wait.

We’re excited to share our Fuyu persimmons with you this week! Fuyus are a non-astringent variety, which means you don’t have to wait for them to get soft before enjoying them. They’re delicious while still firm and crisp—just slice and eat like an apple. Their flavor is naturally sweet with warm, honey-like notes and a subtle spice.

Fuyus originate from Japan and have been cherished for centuries as a seasonal delicacy. They’re rich in fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin A, making them as nourishing as they are beautiful. They also store wonderfully on the counter and get sweeter as they soften, so you can choose the texture you like best—crisp and refreshing, or soft and jammy-sweet.

Enjoy them fresh, on a cheese board, chopped into salads, or paired with yogurt and honey.

No one in our community should go hungry. 💛

With the uncertainty around SNAP benefits, thousands of families in Clark County may soon face a devastating gap in access to food. To help, Taylor Family Farm will serve as a drop-off point for non-perishable food donations in partnership with Clark County Food Bank — and we’ll be matching every item donated, doubling the impact for our neighbors in need.

Bring canned goods, dry goods, or any shelf-stable items to the farm — together, we can make sure that, shutdown or not, every family in our community has food on the table.

Persimmons are ready! 🍊

Bright, sweet, and packed with vitamin A, fiber, and antioxidants — they’re as good for you as they look. Originally cultivated in East Asia over 2,000 years ago, persimmons symbolize good luck and longevity in many cultures. Even their name carries history — from the Algonquian word pessamin, meaning “dry fruit.”

A small, golden reminder that fall still has a little sweetness left to give. 🍂

Our very own Brian is part of the Clark County Master Gardener program! 🌿

He’s an active member of the houseplant team and this week they shared their love of greenery with the new class of Master Gardeners through a terrarium presentation.

Such a fun way to inspire the next generation of plant lovers! 🌱

French shallot babies are getting tucked into the ground for the winter! Each of these little bulbs will rest and divide underground, turning into about three new bulbs by next summer’s harvest. It’s one of our favorite plantings of the year — a small act now that promises big flavor later. Here’s to next season’s rich, caramelized shallots already starting their journey!
