The Culinary Artist

The Culinary Artist My name is Mark Watkins and I am a culinary artist. I am a graduate from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland.

I have had a passion for food for as long as I can remember. My parents taught me to use the microwave when I was three so I could make food on my own. I started making dinner for my family at six and I have been cooking ever since. I always thought I was talented in the kitchen, but then I went to culinary school. I learned that following someone else's recipe did not make me a "culinary artist"

anymore than doing a Mona Lisa paint-by-number makes me a painter. As I learned this I realized that what sets you free is not talent, but understanding.
