When we started to homestead, I thought I was just learning to raise animals and tend a garden. But over time, I realized the land was giving me something. Something I otherwise would have to live without, a place to pour my love, care, and patience into.
I guess a lot of things could’ve become my escape, but I chose this. Early mornings and late nights. T-shirts full of veggies. Hours in the kitchen. Hands in the soil. Lots of furry and feathered little ones looking to me to keep them thriving. A life that needed me to keep moving forward. I learned to appreciate life and loss and all of the lessons that come with it.
Now with a little less on my plate and my mind a little more quiet the days are spent learning to love and care for me. Do I miss that lifestyle or do I miss being busy? Probably both. Luckily for me I lost myself in all that or at least who I thought I was supposed to be. Then one day I gathered the parts of me that I loved the most, packed her up, and told her it was ok to let go. Now we’re in a new journey, the same but also very different. We still do and love a lot of those things, but instead of letting them consume us, we co-exist.
The ability to nurture comes in many forms, and this messy, beautiful life is mine. A life full of love is still a legacy even if it doesn’t look how you imagined. Don’t forget to love and nurture yourself too. 🖤
