I love finding new roasters through this year long journey of trying a new coffee every day, and Blossom Coffee Roasters out is Vashon WA seems like they’re going to be right up my alley. The first bag I reached for (of the 6 coffees I grabbed from them) is this natural Ethiopia, and I couldn’t have picked a better one to jump off with. The crystal clarity of this coffee makes a Swarovski or Diamanté look like a damn lump of coal. Chewy nougat and maple syrup provides a beautiful base for the summer berry and chocolate layers to build on. Not a trace of off flavors to be found here which is just another reason to seek this one out. A perfect summer coffee, with enough body-ody-ody to wake your mouth up while remaining unbelievably crisp and refreshing. So psyched to make my way through this lineup!

How do you store your coffee? 🤔
Did you know that freshly roasted coffee releases gas for a few days after the roasting process? You have likely noticed the circular valve on the front of your coffee bags, and it is for this exact reason! Once the majority of the gases releases a few days post-roast, air tight containers are an excellent way to keep your coffee at optimal freshness for up to 2 weeks. Air tight containers minimize moisture which progressively breaks down the aroma and flavor. Store your coffee whole bean at room temperature to maintain ideal freshness. 😎

Yes those were the lyrics to the theme song of the TV show Blossom, and other than that all I have to say is I love seeing specialty roasters take an interest in Sumatra coffee because this one is so special. I live for everything about how the herbal syrupy density can play off the tart cherry and toasty chicory. Follow ABBA’s words of advice and “Take a chance take a chance take a chance chance” on this coffee.

This is our year round organic blend that is designed to be very versatile. The blend is a ode to the classic espresso as well as a lively and rich offering for a traditional coffee marker. For this blend you can always expect in the cup and milk-based drinks a dark chocolate, earthy notes, and a light sweet dark fruit note. We will always have a blend of an African, a Central American and a Indonesian. Typically this blend is built with a coffee from these origins: Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Sumatra.

🚨☕️ NEW COFFEE ALERT: ETHIOPIA ARICHA! ☕️🚨
From our friends at - “The Aricha Mulecha Mugida washing station has twelve standardized fermentation tanks and follows international procedures for coffee fermentation and washing. The facility uses fresh, running water for washing and other processing purposes. Their staff regularly measures the pH and TDS levels of the water. Aricha has more than 280 raised drying beds, each with its own code to control and track the processing status of each lot. Washed coffee is fermented for 36-48 hours and dried for 18 days.
The Aricha washing station also has 5.2 hectares of coffee in production between 1927 and 1943 meters above sea level. The soil around the washing station is red/brown in color and fertile in organic matter. The temperature ranges from 11.38 to 25.57° C with 1525ml average annual rainfall.

Literally translated as “Land of Many Springs,” Yirgacheffe has the ideal topography, elevation, and water sources to produce and process exceptional coffees. Yirgacheffe is one of the woredas, a district like a municipality or county that includes many towns, of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. Yirgacheffe is part of the Gedeo Zone of SNNPR and the Yirgacheffe woreda is bordered to the south by Kochere, to the west by Oromia Zone, to the north by Wenago, to the east by Bule, and to the southeast by Gedeb. The Yirgacheffe woreda is 409km from Ethiopia’s capital of Addis Ababa and has a population of almost 200,000 people, less than 10% of whom live in cities.
Coffee farmers in Yirgacheffe are typically multi-generational, small-scale landholders, sometimes with only a few acres of land. Most coffees in Yirgacheffe are sold as cherry to centralized washing stations that help further separate flavor profiles.

Yirgacheffe is considered by many to be the birthplace of coffee and the coffee trees grown in the region are a naturally occurring mix of heirloom varietals cultivated among other species in coffee gardens and coffee forests. Washed Coffee was introduced to Ethiopia in the 1970’s, and Yirgacheffe was the location of the first wet processing mill.”

If you’re ever roaming the streets of Bremerton, uncaffeinated and hungry, look no further than Cafe Corvo! 🤩
If you’re from out of town, stop by for a latte and grab a bag of coffee on your next road trip to the peninsula. 🏕⛰

Photos & review by the lovely .critique : “Cafe Corvo has a mature style, reminiscent of cafes found in Seattle. The space is cozy and laid back with modern elements. The walls are filled with various art pieces and the space has plenty of seating. The owners genuinely care about quality, delivering beautifully crafted drinks. They serve blossom coffee roasters espresso roast, a local organic roaster located on Vashon Island, and sell by the bag.

I couldn’t resist trying their February special, the sweet heart mocha, crafted with steamed strawberry milk and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. It surprisingly wasn’t too sweet. The roast was well balanced and strong, and the strawberry in the milk was a fun touch. I also ordered an oat milk cappuccino with cinnamon. It was perfect. The roast was again strong and well balanced, not bitter. Milk was steamed flawlessly and the dash of cinnamon was a perfect way to add a little extra profile.

Definitely a gem in little Kitsap.”
