It's fair week. It's hectic here.

And someone (me, it was me) thought it would be a good idea to sign up for a craft show on the day animals moved into the fair.

Thankfully our family from Wisconsin were willing to brave the heat and work the booth for us.

I think they look pretty good in the butter booth.

Who thinks they should take the show on the road and open their own booth in Wisconsin?

The future of the farm is in good hands with these two.

To say we are proud of them is an understatement. This year they both tried something new, the dairy management contest.

As the name alludes to, this contest tests their knowledge in managing a dairy farm and everything that comes with it from nutrition to reproduction to animal conformation and everything in-between.

Braxton came out as the Top Individual in the novice division. And Charlie and Braxton were a part of the winning team with a new friend from Branch County.

They're watching the day-to-day operations, they're paying attention to what we're doing, they're learning, and they're retaining.

Keep it up kids, your future is bright.

Show results.

The kids had a fun day in the 4H show.

Charlie showed a strong willed Milking Shorthorn 2 year old cow. While she wasn't easy, Charlie persevered. She earned 5th in showmanship and Grand Champion of the Milking Shorthorn show.

Braxton found a rhythm with his Red & White winter calf and earned 7th in showmanship and 2nd in her breed class.

Tomorrow brings the contests and the All-Michigan Milking Shorthorn show for Charlie.

✅ Day 1

The first day of Michigan Dairy Days is in the books. It's hot in the barn and we are beat after the long day. We left the barn at 10:30 tonight and are planning to be back at 5:30 in the morning to get the animals ready for the show. Show starts at 8:30am.

Show Bound.

Loaded and heading to Michigan Dairy Days, the state 4H dairy show and 4H Contests (judging and dairy management). Charlie will be strapping her Milking Shorthorn 2 year old cow for the 4H shows as well as the All Michigan open show and Braxton will have a Red and White December calf for the 4H show.
