They can’t exactly tell us it’s time to wean…but there will be signs.

A few of these bull calves were already practicing their best herd bull bellow out on pasture. Big voices, big opinions, and apparently very important things to say.

A few shots featuring the M\S brand from the Veblen Summer Bash Rodeo!

Stavick Simmental is proud to support our hometown rodeo. Thanks to the crew who work hard to make it happen each year! Our community is fortunate to have an event like this right here at home.

One week since weaning day!

The dust has settled, the calves have transitioned to feed like champs and finally quit bellowing, and the cows seem to be thoroughly enjoying their well-earned reprieve out on pasture. All in all, we’d call that a successful weaning.

A big thank you to the best crew for making the day go so smoothly — Holly Roe-Johnson with Hosmer Veterinary Clinic and her team, Tori and Tage, along with Thad Jensen, Kaleb Pitkin and Andrew Fuhrmann. We’re awfully grateful for people who are willing to show up, pitch in and make days like this a whole lot easier. Weaning is a big day around here, and we couldn’t have asked for a better one.

Mike: "If you see 55C, try to get a good picture of her."

Figured it was because she's raising one of the best bull calves on the place this year.

After watching this interaction... we're not so sure. Think Dad just has a favorite.

It's also safe to say 55C wasn't interested in getting her glamour shot.

Consider this a spring throwback.

These photos were taken in early May, when the grass was just starting to green up and the cattle were still hanging onto plenty of winter hair. Fast forward a few months, the winter coat has disappeared and they've grown as much as the pasture itself.

We'll get you caught up over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for the latest!

Somehow we made it all the way to summer pasture season without sharing half of our favorite calving photos.

While we're sweating through another week of 90°+ heat and humidity, here's your reminder that calving season is never all that far away. Before we know it, those leisurely pasture checks will be replaced by late-night calving barn visits.

Pasture photos are coming. But first, here's where this year's calf crop started.

We think it's one of our favorite groups yet.

We started pulling bulls out of their breeding pastures on July 1st and got a few clips we will share! Here is two year old STAV Trade School 77M. Look for his sons if you’re wanting to capture as much length, size, stature and eye appeal as you can get.

Busy week here at the ranch! Monday, we chopped our first cutting of haylage and had it covered up first thing Tuesday morning. We followed that up by preg-checking the replacement heifers and trailing them out to summer grass.

We’re feeling both happy and blessed to have the feed put up and looking good. We also baled triticale over the weekend, so it’s been a productive stretch.

Next up: pulling the bulls from the cow herd in a couple of weeks. The work never stops, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
