City of Veneta

City of Veneta The official page for the City of Veneta, Oregon

Veneta, (population 4690) located about twelve miles west of Eugene, is a small, progressive community with tremendous growth potential. Veneta’s close proximity to the Fern Ridge Reservoir, nearby wineries and farms, as well as its abundance of natural areas and wildlife, makes the city an attractive place to live and visit. Incorporated in 1962, Veneta has transformed from a bustling timber town

to a progressive, visionary city that has both embraced recent growth and continues to prepare for future growth with major projects such as downtown redevelopment, a site-ready industrial park and upgraded public works facilities. Veneta serves as a sub-regional center for the unincorporated communities in the Fern Ridge Area: Elmira, Crow, Noti, Vaughn, and Walton. Veneta’s quiet, small town community feel, close proximity to an abundance of natural and scenic amenities, and location near the metro area are among the more compelling features attracting residential growth to the city. A comfortable commute from the metropolitan area, Veneta is in relatively close proximity to shopping, services, and jobs in west Eugene.

Yesterday, Veneta Public Works crews tackled a main-line water break off of Cheney Drive. Powering through a thunder and rain storm to ensure that our residents had service restored in a timely manner!

Timeline of the repair:
9:00 AM – Main-line water break reported to the City
10:00 AM – Crews arrive on-site and begin cutting through asphalt to access the break
4:00 PM – Water main line fully repaired and service restored

From report to repair in just seven hours, our Public Works team worked diligently through wet and windy conditions to get the job done safely and get water service back up and running for our residents.

A huge thank-you to our crew for their hard work and dedication!

This Saturday at the Veneta market, we will have a fun free educational event called an Egg Drop. It’s a fantastic STEM learning activity for elementary and middle school students (even adults!). Please spread the word in your networks.

Some guidelines:
1) We provide materials but families can also bring from home. Allowable materials are soft: cardboard, plastic soda bottles, cotton balls, fabric, yarn, bubble wrap, leaves, rubber bands, straws, etc. Hard materials like wood, metal, stone are not allowed.

2) Allowable assembly methods are tape, glue, tying with string. Staples, nails are not allowed. Basically no materials that could hurt someone if it fell on them from a height.

3) All containers must weigh no more than 3 pounds and be no larger than 8x8x8 inches. Parachutes are allowed.

4) We provide the eggs. One egg per container but you can enter multiple containers in the event. Judges must be able to put the egg in and take it out of the container in 30 seconds or less. It cannot be taped or glued into the contraption.

5) Parents and children can collaborate. Children can also work in teams if desired.

6) Containers must be built onsite at the market between 11-12, even if you bring your own materials. Children must participate in design and assembly.

7) Entries that result in a broken egg receive a coupon for $5 off a carton of eggs at the market. Entries resulting in an intact egg receive a gift certificate to Dairy Queen (or similar).

Thank you and hope to see you Saturday!
