During our most recent warehousing inventory count, our team discovered a few remaining cases of a long sold out special edition still sitting behind a large stack of other bottles.

But what exactly is the MacSchwarzenegger, you ask? Here are the details…

Mittelberger Cooperage crafted three brand new Austrian oak barrels and shipped them to Scotland on our behalf. We then sourced a Speyside single malt wh**ky (right at 10 years of age) and finished it inside of Arnold’s personalized casks, adding an entirely new twist to the classic Scottish profile. After four months in new Austrian oak, the Speyside malt took on an entirely new character with notes of marzipan, cedar, and candied nuts.

Bottled at 47% ABV, the result is a unique single malt wh**ky that pays homage to the Austrian oak—both literally and figuratively! Round and supple on the palate, the creaminess of the wh**ky is what first grabs the attention. The Austrian oak influence hits immediately after, painting the palate with exotic wood notes that are seamlessly integrated into the inherent maltiness of the wh**ky.

There’s a reason the modern Scotch wh**ky palate has gravitated towards the potent flavor combination of Sherry cask maturation with unbridled power.

Whether its Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, Amontillado, or Palo Cortado, Sherry’s rich, sweet, and nutty flavors pair perfectly with the inherent maltiness of single malt Scotch wh**ky, which is why Spain’s empty Jerez casks have been making their way north for nearly a century. What’s changed over the last decade, however, is the seemingly limitless desire for more punch!

Whereas older generations evaluated their Scotch wh**ky based on how “smooth” it felt on the palate, today’s enthusiasts are constantly on the hunt for the darkest, most concentrated single Sherry barrel specimen, bottled without dilution at the boldest ABVs imaginable.
