Baby pears have emerged from pollination. The few varieties of apples we looked at are coming along nicely as well. The bloom seamed to be short lived this year. Its like they vanished over night.

Happy Memorial day! The warm temps are here and the orchard is loving it. The orchard is about 90% in bloom. The bees are busy visiting the trees and doing their critical role pollinating the blooms. Edna, Sybil, and the birds have found their spot among the trees. Here's a few pics of the orchard.

Apple buds are wanting to open up. We hope freezing temps will be done once these little delicate buds open and flower. If not, they will freeze and the apple crop will take a hit. On another note.... did you know an apple bud can produce 5-6 apples if pollinated.

For the past couple weeks we've been out in the orchard pruning our fruit trees. If you've never seen it done before, it looks like we are cutting a lot off but there is a reason for it

Pruning is one of the most important steps in growing fruit. By pruning back certain branches, we allow more sunlight and air flow to enter the trees. More sunlight means better color and bigger and sweeter fruit while more air flow means less tree disease. It also allows manageable tree height and favorable fruit set.

While it may look like we are pruning a lot, we are setting the stage for this years fruit crop.
