Boundbrook Farm LLC is a small specialty rice and duck operation in Vermont. I've invested 11 years in developing a method for small commercial ecological rice cultivation suited to our soil and climate. Now I'm ready to expand and the next logical step is to hire a second farmer to work alongside me and build the operation. I'm looking towards the 2021 season now and it's not too soon to start making plans. Ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in farming, including some exposure to both cropping and livestock husbandry, and a strong interest in the management of complex, multi-species systems in which considerations of livestock health, crop performance, economics, labor inputs and long term soil development all need to be carefully balanced. Candidates are NOT expected to have prior experience in duck and rice farming because that would be very unrealistic of me. But you should have enough exposure to sustainable agriculture work in general to demonstrate an ability to learn this kind of thing. An interest in cross-cultural work is a plus as is proficiency in Japanese. This is an emerging niche in the development of Northeastern sustainable agriculture with a raft of demonstrable positive environmental impacts ranging from erosion control to watershed bio-filtration to wildlife habitat enhancement, with career potential. Salary negotiable depending on experience. Position starts May, 2021.
