I’m so pleased with how well the grapes are looking! After those 2 hard freezes, I was getting nervous. But we’ve definitely got grapes! 🍇

My plan worked! Most of the outer buds froze, but that protected the inner buds, which are the ones I actually wanted to grow in the first place!

A friend of mine asked me for some advice on what to do with her grapes. They just moved to a new house and it has lots of grape vines, but they were all so overgrown and jungly! I went over and showed her how to prune it for this year. I felt like we were unearthing an ancient civilization! Super fun!

I usually prune to just 2 buds per spur, but because I’m nervous about a late freeze after all this warm weather, I’m doing a soft prune of 3-5 buds per spur. That way if it freezes, the outer 2-3 buds will freeze, and the inner couple will be safe. After the last potential freeze date, I’ll go back and prune these even closer.
