🌽 The last sweet corn planting of 2026 is in the ground!

From chilly spring mornings to long days in the tractor, it’s been a busy planting season. Now we wait and watch it grow. If all goes well, we’ll have plenty of sweet corn headed your way the end of July!

Thank you for supporting our family’s farm. ❤️

Tried my hand at homemade kombucha for the first time! 🍇🫧

This started as sweet tea and a SCOBY, then I bottled it for a second fermentation and added a little 100% organic grape juice to make it fruity and bubbly.

What amazes me is that both of these bottles came from the exact same batch, were bottled at the same time, and sat side-by-side for 4 days. One had almost no carbonation at all, while the other practically launched itself into space when I opened it! 🤣

The science behind fermentation is pretty fascinating. Apparently, a little difference in yeast or bacteria can make a huge difference in how much CO₂ builds up in each bottle.

Needless to say, opening homemade kombucha is a bit of an adventure!💥

Anyone else make their own kombucha? What are your favorite flavor combinations?

Hey friends — with so many new faces here lately, I figured it was probably time to introduce ourselves instead of just continuing to post sweet corn, cows, and random farm chaos without explanation. 😂

We’re Mark and Jessica Johnson from Johnson Family Farm near Verndale, MN — located about 1.25 miles north of Hwy 10 on County Rd. 23. Our farm has been in Mark’s family since 1910, and we feel incredibly blessed to now be raising our four kids here while continuing something that’s been part of this family for generations.

Life around here is full of long days, dirty laundry, muddy boots, late nights, and a whole lot of chaos… but honestly, we wouldn’t trade it for anything. 🌽

Through the summer and fall you’ll mostly see:
🌽 sweet corn harvests
🎃 pumpkins & fall setup
🐓 everyday farm life
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 our family doing our best to juggle it all

One of the biggest ways small family farms like ours grow is simply through people sharing posts and telling friends about us. So if you enjoy following along, sharing our page or posts truly helps support our family more than you probably realize. ❤️

And just for fun — tell us below:

If it’s been a little quiet around here… it’s not because nothing’s happening 😅

Life has just been full in all the other ways.

Between spring sports, church, kids, and everything that comes with farm life, we’ve been staying busy behind the scenes—
• growing our egg-laying flock 🐔 (we added another 50 hens because let’s be honest… we never had enough eggs for you guys at the farm stand 😅)
• bottle feeding a calf whose mama decided motherhood wasn’t her thing 🙃
• working on equipment and getting things ready for the season ahead

And somewhere in between all of that… I’ve been digging through seeds, ordering pumpkins and squash, and starting to map out what this year will look like.

If you saw our earlier post about “simplifying,” it doesn’t mean we’re doing less—it just means we’re being more intentional with where our time goes.

Sweet corn and fall are our main focus this year 🌽🎃
We’re actually expanding our pumpkin and squash varieties and are really excited about what that will look like come fall.

We’ll still have some flowers around too—simple, beautiful ones like sunflowers, zinnias, and gladiolus 🌻

It’s crazy how it all starts with a few tiny seeds and a whole lot of hope. 🌱
And we are so ready to get our hands in the dirt in the next couple weeks.

👇 Comment below with your must-have this season:

We can’t wait to see you all again soon ❤️

Well… apparently twins are the theme of the week around here.

This good mama surprised us with twin heifers, our second set of twins already! Because apparently calving season wasn’t exciting enough without adding snow to the mix. ❄️😅

Prayers appreciated as we head into a few cold, snowy days for all these new little farm babies and their hardworking mamas.

We have two cows in our Black Angus herd that have some Gelbvieh mixed in, and she’s one of our best moms. She always gives us the prettiest calves and we love seeing what color she surprises us with each year.

2026 is our year of simplicity and intentionality 🤍🌽🎃

As we look ahead to the 2026 season, our family has spent a lot of time praying, reflecting, and having honest conversations about what this next year needs to look like — and where God is leading us.

This year, we’re choosing simplicity, sustainability, healing, and joy.

While 2026 marks our fifth year owning the farm, this land has been in Mark’s family since 1910. As our family and responsibilities have grown, we’ve had to be intentional about how we operate and the pace we keep. Between the physical demands of farming, raising a family, ongoing health challenges, and Mark running his construction business full-time, the way we were operating simply wasn’t sustainable. Long days and seven-day workweeks take a toll on our bodies and pull time away from what matters most.

Sometimes the most faithful choice isn’t pushing harder, but slowing down and stewarding well what God has entrusted to us — our land, our work, and our family.

For 2026, we’re intentionally narrowing our focus. Not because we can’t do it all — but because we feel called not to.

🌽 Sweet corn will be our main focus, backed by 35 years of experience, with the goal of growing the best crop possible and giving it the time and care it deserves.
🎃 Pumpkins and squash will remain a strong part of our fall stand, and we’re excited to fully lean into that season.
🌻 Flowers will take a significant step back this year. While a very small amount may still be grown simply because they bring joy, they will not be a main focus or offered in the same way as past seasons.

Jessica was offered a part-time church secretary position — something she never imagined herself doing outside the farm. But she has always loved serving in our church, and when this opportunity became available, she felt clearly called to apply. We truly believe this is where God wants her in this season.

This year is about quality over quantity — in our crops, our time, and our energy. It’s about being present with our kids, having the margin to preserve and can what we grow, and building a truly sustainable supply for our family instead of constantly racing the clock.

Farming will always be busy (because… farming 🙃), but 2026 is our year to stop draining ourselves and start doing things with intention, care, and joy again.

As we step into this next season, we’re committing our plans to the Lord and trusting Him to establish them.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
— Proverbs 16:3
