Ever opened a bottle and noticed tiny crystals at the bottom or around the cork?

They may look suspicious, but they’re usually tartrate crystals — sometimes called “w**e diamonds.”

They can naturally form when compounds in the w**e crystallize, especially after the bottle has been chilled.

They’re harmless and don’t mean the w**e is spoiled.

So if you ever spot a few “diamonds” in your bottle, you may just be seeing a little bit of w**e chemistry. 💎🍷

Here’s one that surprises a lot of people:

White w**e can actually be made from red grapes.

The juice inside many dark-skinned grapes is relatively pale. Red w**e gets much of its color when the juice stays in contact with the grape skins during w**emaking.

Remove those skins early enough, and dark grapes can produce a white or very pale w**e.

That’s how w**es such as Blanc de Noirs can be made from red grape varieties. 🍇

W**e is mostly about what happens after the grapes are picked.
