It's that time again – we've got some more leftovers and canceled orders and these will stay at the 6 week old pricing! And for all our friends in the area, our next trip to Lubbock is coming up fast on May 31st!

Meet Razzle Dazzle, he is a Frazzle and he is not enjoying the cooler weather today! Since its been popping up more lately I thought I should share that this little guy is the reason we don't usually sell Frizzle Roosters.

We want to prevent people from knowingly or unknowingly breed a frizzle roo to a frizzle hen which results with poor little ones like this!

Frazzle is the term for a chicken who inherits two copies of the Frizzle curled feather gene. Their extra-curly feathers are brittle, prone to very easy breakage, and they are cold intolerant and can have many other health issues. They will have an extreme upwards curl to their feathers, which tend to appear more sparse, revealing the chick’s skin and Frazzles will have delicate feathers and their wing feathers seem especially sensitive. They can appear to feather much more slowly than their hatch mates. They usually look “off”, as if they are balding or suffering from some unusual condition.

Please do not produce Frazzle chickens for sale and please do not sell Frazzle chicks to unsuspecting buyers! It is significant work to care for these birds who always seem to be experiencing some type of discomfort; especially Frazzle hens who must endure mounting if housed with a rooster!

If you want to buy Frizzle chicks to hatch your own you can use a different breed to do so. The Frizzles are Bantam Cochins so if you want to keep them "pure" you can go with that option and you can tell within 3 weeks if a chick is a frizzle easily and sometimes as early as 2. If they do not have a curl to their feathers by then they will not frizzle.

We’re thrilled to share that one of our founding board members now is a certified nonprofit professional!

Taylor Edmonds has spent the last two quarters attending targeted classes with the Center for Nonprofit Management & Leadership at MSU Texas
to bolster her knowledge of all things charitable.

While she was already a wonderful asset to our board, these lessons on fundraising, strategic planning, legal compliance, public relations, and so much more will make her even stronger.
