For millennium plants have populated the world providing food for every living creature. But today, so many of those plants are disappearing as new genetically modified hybrids replace them, changing the way we eat and the very health of the planet. Out in the country, where land is still relatively cheap, there is a growing movement toward sustainable agriculture and providing locally grown food.
But here, in north east New Jersey, we all live so close together, and land is expensive and dear. Local family farms have all but disappeared and it will be hard to bring them back. At SPROUT we’re devoted to growing and teaching others how to grow their own food organically, in a biodynamic and sustainable manner. And we're doing all this right here in Verona, just 20 miles out of New York City. We are currently working out of a 1,400 sq ft Lord & Burnham glass greenhouse from the 1940's. We're expanding and will soon have a 500 sq ft store front, as well as a half acre lot for a large vegetable garden, rooftop gardens and a second larger greenhouse. The new greenhouse will not only be used to grow microgreens, but also to teach classes on how to grow your own food year round.
