CSA 9 of 10! I love fall crops 🎃 they’re always my favorite to grow.
This week I made some elderberry syrup with berries I picked at the farm! I wanted to share some photos from my time at the medicine gardens during herb school. Wish I had more pictures of the gardens because it was an oasis in the middle of the Phoenix area. I farmed a bit before coming here, so I felt like I knew what I was doing and didn’t need the herb farming internship. But, I ended up with it anyway and it was the best thing that could have happened.
I learned so much more than I had just working as a seasonal employee or from wwoofing. (How I started my farm journey) At the medicine gardens, I was present from start to finish. I learned about worm composting, seed collecting, irrigation, curing/drying, and medicine making! I’ve been making this elderberry syrup recipe since- and it’s the best!!!
Anyway, I feel like a completely different person than I was in 2018 when I started at the herb school, but there’s a lot that remains the same. My dreams shifted a bit, but I’ll always have at least a few beds of herbs in the fields 💕

The last photo is of my teacher, JoAnn Sanchez. She’s more amazing than an instagram caption can convey! I am very lucky that I had the opportunity to learn from her 🌿

The farm hired the coolest crew to come take care of the weeds.. goats!!

These guys are from Fair Wether Restoration and they’re here to clean up the forest and make space for native plants and trees 🐐🌳

(I’m not adding any sound, so enjoy Rosie trying to learn the goat names!)
