There’s something new coming to BLFF…A FLOWER TRUCK!!!🛻 🌸

On Friday, Chase gave me the surprise of a lifetime when he rolled up to the farm with this baby blue cutie and shocked the hell outta me! I’m not speechless very often but I was completely floored at such an amazing gesture! I’ve been talking about a flower truck for a while but this surprise made it so special, especially with family & friends involved in pulling it off.🩷

What’s next? We are going to build out a removable bloom bar in the truck bed for events and offer event & photography rentals for the truck! 📸🌸💐

I’m so thankful to have found a partner who fully supports me & my crazy flower dream. Doing life with you is so fun, and I’m so excited for this new adventure. PS - I’m glad I could be your excuse to buy a new toy 🩷🌸

Potatoes are finally completely planted! 🥔
I may have been a little heavy handed with my spring order (no regrets 😏) but it gave me the perfect excuse to add a few more raised beds to get them all planted. 💁🏼‍♀️

I’m currently still dealing with a rodent problem in my veggie garden so I’m avoiding growing them in ground again since they decimated the potatoes last year. All of the raised beds have wire mesh under them to protect everything being grown, it’s working like a charm so far.

The quality of products never ceases to amaze me, their seed potatoes were absolutely top notch quality and really beautiful colors. Now to get these potatoes planted with some other friendly veggies and herbs!

GARLIC SCAPES HAVE ARRIVED!!🎉
One of my favorite parts of growing garlic is harvesting the scapes, they make the most delicious pesto, butter & salt! I may even try pickling some this year because why not?

Scapes are essentially the seed pod of the garlic plant, you remove them so the energy will be less focused on flowering and going to seed and more on growing a big, beautiful garlic bulb🧄

& THAT’S A WRAP ON PEONY SEASON FOLKS - In early spring when the peonies started to pop up, I had no idea what to expect for my year 2 field and if I’d even get any blooms from the plants. But as the rows began to fill, I got more giddy by the day because I was seeing them start to set a good amount of viable blooms! Fast forward to today, it’s safe to say my expectations were blown away at the YoY growth and how healthy & productive they were. But even more so, at how many people got to enjoy peonies grown in my field. 🌸

Most growers don’t cut from the plants until year three but I was a flower rebel and cut whatever I could, just making sure to leave lots of foliage still on the plant so they can gather energy for the roots to further establish.

The flowers may be gone but the field still looks lush with greenery. They’ll get dead headed and a foliar spray of fish fertilizer this week to assist the plants with root production.

I already miss these ruffled cuties but that will just make next year even sweeter 🌸

Last Saturday, the peonies made their debut, one and done performance for 2026 at Market Days.

Being able to provide local, organic peonies to the community (and all of our favorite moms) made my heart explode. I’m already counting down the seconds until next year when the field gets one year closer to full maturity!

To everyone that bought a bunch, deluxe bouquet or potted peony - thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting Britty Little Flower Farm! Growing flowers takes a lot of time and energy but hearing your favorite peony memories or how they make you feel makes it all worth it. 💕

Did you know that you can store peonies in the fridge for weeks WITHOUT water? Aka Dry Storing.

I have a big event Thursday which I wanted to hold ~400 blooms for so I trialed two different ways of dry storing. Both were extremely successful with only a few stems that didn’t make it!

#1) Kraft paper - using a large paper roll, I bunched ~15-20 peonies together and wrapped in paper and stapled them closed. This method was easy to mark varieties, quantities and harvest date.

#2) Paper towels & Grocery bags - Roll out paper towels and then roll peonies into a paper towel roll. Add a grocery bag over the blooms and one over the stem. Easy to stack and store in the fridge.

🌸❄️Harvest flowers in the ‘marshmallow’ stage, remove lower leaves & store peonies horizontally in the fridge at a cold temp. Mine were stored at 37 degrees consistently.

Both method worked very well, I had a tiny bit of mold on the paper towels on the Pink Hawaiian variety but flowers were not affected thankfully.

👩🏼‍🔬Next year, I will try both methods again next year to test vase life.

& that’s a complete wrap on my first year as a flower farmer 🫶🏻✨🌸👩‍🌾

Cutting flowers into November is a rare occurrence but the farm is now resting after the freeze this week fully ended the growing season.❄️ it was a full court press last weekend to get the spring bebes covered and the dahlias cutdown, labeled & put to bed but got it done with a few hours to spare! 🤪

Now to build some low tunnels and shift focus to spring flowers, I’ve got lots of pretties to get in the ground in the coming weeks 🌸 I may be a weirdo, but I LOVE the fall/winter prep and thrive in the cooler temps. The prep being done now will make for an extra beautiful farm next year. 🙃

Getting the ranunculus & anemones all tucked in for winter! I left the plants in the ground in these two rows and zinnias were seeded over them.

They are popping back until with the cooler weather so it’s time to get them all ready for winter❄️

I’m using the spent zinnias as mulch and then added some fresh compost on top. Next, I’ll get a low caterpillars tunnels built and installed over the rows this gives the planted some protection from the cold KY winter temps. Plus it should give me flowers a lot earlier than last year 🎉
