IT'S THE FINAL PILE OF THE SEASON!!! πŸ™Œβ€οΈβ˜€οΈ Feeling thankful to God for the safe harvest, Mother Nature for the beautiful weather, and all these awesome people who showed up to drive tractors and throw tires with us. ❀️❀️❀️

We're wrapping up corn silage harvest tonight! πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ It's been 7 straight days of running hard, pounding the loads into the bunker piles. One more (BIG) pile to cover and that will be a wrap on !!! THANK YOU to everyone who has shown up to drive tractors, throw tires, or bring food to keep the crew happy. ❀️

Ryan (10 years old) has been riding along with Papa in the packer tractor for years -- driving back and forth, back and forth on our feed piles to pack everything down to prepare it for storage. Finally, he got a turn to drive it on his own! πŸ’ͺ🚜 The pile is small, but so is he, and we're impressed by how well he was able to handle such a big machine! πŸ‘

Young and old -- it takes everyone for a successful harvest! ❀️ These two are a little small for throwing tires as we cover the bunker, but they're just right for pulling the plastic over the pile! πŸ’ͺ Thanks for coming to help, guys! πŸ‘

DYK: When we have a feed pile full and ready to store, we cover the walls of the bunker and the top of the pile with this thin, clear plastic and then with a heavier plastic before adding the tires on top. The plastic helps keep the feed fresh and stored safely for our cows to enjoy in the coming months. πŸ„

Sitting down with a few dozen corn to make freezer corn for the upcoming winter. ❀️🌽 The corn is PERFECT right now -- and we have lots of it!

Here's the recipe that has been in Trav's family for years. It's so yummy and easy to do!

We're picking corn fresh every day. Stop by the farm stand or the Pittsville Cenex in the mornings. $5/dozen. If you want a specific amount and know when you want to come, let me know and I'll set it aside for you.

We're fully stocked!! ❀️🌽 Corn-ski 2025 has officially begun. ☺️We'll try our best to keep our stand stocked. The stand ...

We're fully stocked!! ❀️🌽 Corn-ski 2025 has officially begun. ☺️

We'll try our best to keep our stand stocked. The stand on Cty C is also stocked, and we'll have corn in the Pittsville Cenex parking lot most mornings.

If you are looking for a large order, reach out to let us know so we can have it set aside!

Sometimes you can do it all right and still end up with a field that looks like this. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

In the spirit of being real (and not just showing the best on social media): We shared a photo of a really great looking corn field last week, but that's not what all our fields look like...

This field was planted around the same time as our other fields. But then it rained. And it rained. And it rained. And when the time came that we could have replanted with sorghum, it rained again.

So, now it's too late and this is what this field will look like this year. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ One of the reasons farming is so hard is that the weather can make or break you -- and it's completely out of your control.

We struggle with this particular field often. We're looking at options for improving its productivity (tiling it, for example).

Hopefully it will look better next year. We're laughing so we don't cry, but try not to laugh too hard when you drive past this field -- or our other "stellar" field on Grant Rd. 🫀

Third crop is complete! πŸ™Œ It was a successful weekend... but it almost wasn’t. It could have ended in tragedy.

Every year, farmers post messages like this. And every year, it still needs to be said: Please be patient when you come upon farm equipment on the road.

Those tractors are driven by my children.
Our cousins.
Our friends.
My husband.

Yesterday, TWICE on Highway C, we were nearly hit while trying to turn left into a field.

▢️ The first time, the chopper had just entered the field. Three tractors and wagons (driven by my 13- and 15-year-olds and their 14-year-old cousin) were lined up to turn left.
Before the first tractor could begin the turn, a car flew up from behind and passed all three on the left. 😑

▢️ Later that day, my 13-year-old was about to turn into that same field. His blinker was on. He began his turn. And again, a car sped up from behind and passed on the left.

He saw it just in time.

If he hadn’t, the outcome could have been devastating.

Let me be clear:
βœ… The chopper was already in the field.
βœ… The blinkers were on.
βœ… It was obvious where they were turning.

I don’t know what was so urgent that those drivers couldn’t wait 60 seconds.

But I know this:
If my son hadn’t seen that car, that driver would’ve been delayed far longer. πŸ’”

So please:
Respect our farmers.
Recognize the people behind the wheel.
Slow down.
Share the road.
And help us all have a safe, successful harvest. 🚜❀️
