Soybean planting is rolling today 🌱🚜

We’re planting green into a living cover crop and will terminate it after planting. The cover crop helps protect against erosion, hold moisture, improve soil health, and keep living roots in the ground longer to feed the soil.

Those big yellow tanks on the planter are part of our in-furrow liquid nitrogen setup, allowing us to place nutrients right with the seed for a strong early start and better crop vigor.

Big shoutout to B&B Farms for helping us out with some custom farming work this spring — we appreciate the help getting another crop in the ground!

Sent out the real management team today… 👶🐶🚜

Mom’s behind the wheel, Tommy’s running quality control, and Lulu the ‘cattle dog’ is head of security (mostly guarding snacks).

This weekend, we made our rounds by checking fields and getting things ready to plant soybeans, including burning off fence lines and removing volunteer trees from them 🔥🌱

Of course, we had to swing by and check on Dad (Dustin)… make sure he wasn’t just ‘supervising’ from the pickup again. 👀
Report says he was working… for once.

Cover crops are coming up nicely, fields are drying up from recent rains, and management says we’re (mostly) on track.

Meet Lulu… our French Bulldog turned full-time cattle dog 🐄🐾

Now, she may not have the speed of a Border Collie or the grit of a Heeler… but what she does have is:
• a top speed of about 12 mph (downhill, wind at her back)
• a herding style best described as “light supervision”
• and a firm belief that barking from a safe distance is basically the same thing as working

The cows aren’t entirely convinced… but Lulu shows up, ready to clock in, waddle out, and put in a solid 3–5 minutes of effort before needing a break.

Honestly, morale has never been higher around here.

🐄 Know Your Beef 🥩

You’ve probably heard concerns about growth hormones in beef—and one of the biggest questions is about cancer risk.

Here’s the honest truth:

Some people worry that added hormones in cattle could be linked to certain cancers, particularly hormone-sensitive cancers like breast or prostate cancer. This concern comes from the idea that extra hormone exposure over time might influence how cells grow.

What does the science say?
Research has shown that beef from cattle treated with approved hormones is considered safe, and the actual hormone levels in beef are extremely low—often similar to or even lower than foods like eggs or dairy.

But we also understand this:
People want to limit any potential risks where they can—especially when it comes to their family’s food.

👉 That’s why we do not use added growth hormones in our cattle.

Our approach is simple:
• No added growth hormones
• No shortcuts—just time, feed, and care
• Beef raised the way we’d feed our own family

We’re not here to tell you what to think—we’re here to give you a choice and be transparent about how your beef is raised.

From our family to yours 🇺🇸

Easter on the farm hits a little different. Early mornings, new calves on green grass, and the reminder that life keeps showing up—stronger than before.

Today we’re grateful not just for the work we get to do, but for the hope behind it all. The same God who brings new life to our pastures each spring is the One who rolled the stone away.

No matter the season you’re in, there’s a promise in today:
new life, fresh starts, and something greater ahead.

From our family to yours—Happy Easter.

🐄 Did You Know? 🥩

Did you know the U.S. beef cattle industry is made up of over 700,000 cattle operations—and the vast majority are family-owned farms and ranches, just like ours?

Here are a few more beef facts straight from the pasture:

• The U.S. has about 28–30 million beef cows at any given time
• Cattle convert grass—land you can’t farm—into high-quality protein
• It takes about 12–18 months to raise a finished beef animal
• Beef provides 10 essential nutrients, including protein, iron, and B vitamins
• Less than 2% of Americans are farmers or ranchers—feeding the other 98%

Around here, we take pride in being part of that 2%—raising cattle the right way, caring for the land, and producing beef we’re proud to put on your table.

From our family to yours—thanks for supporting local agriculture 🇺🇸

❄️ The Forecast is Lookin’ a Little "Beefy" This Weekend! ❄️

Looks like Mother Nature decided we haven't spent enough time in our coveralls lately. According to the NWS, we’re trading in the "Minor Inconveniences" for some "Full-Blown Flurry Shenanigans" starting Saturday.

The Demuth Family Cattle Co. Weekend Survival Guide:

The Cows: Are currently debating if the snow tastes better than the hay we just put out. (Spoiler: They’ll still want the hay).

The Crew: Dustin and Mica have to work their "regular jobs" and are currently enjoying the calm before the storm. Tom and Rocker are doing whatever old people do before a storm. 🤷‍♂️😂

The Plan: If you see us out in the "Moderate Impact" zone, just know we’re mostly looking for where we parked the tractor... and our sense of humor. 🚜❄️

In all seriousness, stay safe and stay warm out there, neighbors! If the roads get as red as this map, stay home, cook up a nice roast, and let the snow do its thing. We'll be out here making sure the girls stay fed and cozy.

Thanks to Redwood Soil & Water Conservation District for hosting the Hwy 14 Tour – CLASIC and continuing to promote practices like cover crops, strip-till, and soil health. These are values we strongly believe in on our farm.

We were also proud to donate some Demuth Family Cattle Co. beef as part of the Redwood County specialty food door prize.
