We wanted to start sharing some simple low-tox recipes here and there that we use on our homestead! ✨️

We hope to encourage others to start limiting toxins in their homes, so that we can all lead healthy, happy lives. So much of what you find on the shelves at the grocery store have ingredients that are considered to be endocrine disruptors & carcinogens, especially those containing artifical fragrances, ingredients that have numbers in them, and ingredients that make you go, "hmm, how the heck do you pronounce that?!" πŸ€”

Making small changes in our every day lives can help to reduce this stress burden on our bodies. These changes can also reduce the burden of chemicals contaminating the Earth and can help shift the narrative for big corporations to start moving towards more natural ingredients in their products. 🌿

It takes a little extra time to make your own household products, but trust us when we say that it is worth it - for your body, for your wallet, for the planet. 🩡

Mid-Spring days have us swooning over the landscape! So much abundant life has come back to bless us all. We have been foraging and preserving field garlic, ramps, stinging nettle, purple deadnettle, dandelion, garlic mustard, cleavers, violets, and morel mushrooms. 🌿

Our favorite ways to preserve our harvests are by turning all our greens into pesto that we freeze and get to enjoy the mineral rich goodness all Winter long. We also do a lot of dehydrating of plants and mushrooms for future use and make lots of lovely herbal & mushroom salts that we use in dishes, as well as getting to share them through our catering business and selling them at markets! ❀️

And we have been making so much medicine to use and share! Last week we made:
Peppermint extract, lavender extract, vanilla extract, chamomile tincture, clove tincture, tulsi tincture, nettle root tincture, Love tincture (Kava Kava & Rose), Calm tincture (chamomile, passion flower, lavender, valerian root, kava kava, & ashwaghanda), & we double extracted our mushroom blends for our Fun-guy tincture (Lion's Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Turkey Tail. & Cordyceps) πŸ„

The homestead life is so much about being able to be truly present in the moments with the natural world, with our plants, our animals, and ourselves, while also continually prepping to be nourished and well through the Winter. It's a beautiful balance and we are so grateful to have the opportunity to be stewards of the land & to be held so deeply by the Earth Mother & all she provides. 🌻

Stay tuned as we will have many of the medicines & culinary delights available for purchase in the coming months! 🐒

Today's the day, we've got more babies just starting to make their way out of their shells. 🐣 Stay tuned for cuteness overload pictures once everyone has made their appearance. So excited to add these sweeties to our flock - Black Copper Marans, F1 Olive Eggers, Marsbars, Crested Cream Legbars, Welsummers, and Backcross OE! 😍
