September is the peak migration month for hummingbirds in the fall, and these tiny travelers can’t resist the beautiful flower spikes of bottlebrush plants. If you want to naturally attract them to your yard, send us a message to make an appointment and grab your plants while they’re available!

One of our farm favorites is this Siam Tulip. That gorgeous pink “flower” is actually called a bract, and it protects the purple flowers below. Show us your favorite plant in the comments! 🪴

*We do not grow or sell Siam Tulips, but we do have rabbiteye blueberry plants for sale by appointment. If you are a local blueberry farmer replacing plants post-harvest, ask about our wholesale pricing!*

I want to remember a man who instilled a love of farming in the hearts of many. He passed away 5 years ago.

Grandpa was the strong, silent type with dashing blue eyes and a phenomenal work ethic. His love for the Lord continued to grow throughout his 96 years of life. He had hay fields and cattle, which he enjoyed tending to for as long as he was physically able. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather.

He wasn’t known to talk your ear off, but because we lived several hours apart he and I exchanged handwritten letters from the time I was a child through my college years. (He was surrounded by plenty of family members who loved him dearly and lived close by.)

He had a dry sense of humor, and he never complained about anything. In one of his letters at 90 years old, he said: “I can still drive the pickup to help feed cows. I can still bale hay and disc and brush mow. The grass is growing and the water is flowing, so all in all things aren’t too bad since I am able to buy anything I want to eat and can eat about anything without it hurting me much. I thank the Lord every day that I am still in reasonably good health and can take care of myself as well as I can. As you can tell, I’m not very good at writing but what can you expect at almost 91 years of age? Not too many around who are that old (ha). I guess I have about run out of anything to say. I’ve already told you more than I know (ha). Love all of you, Grandpa Jarrell.”

What a lost art to write handwritten letters. They contain words we can reread and cherish for years to come.

Long before we ever imagined the road that would lead us to Creekwood Farms, Grandpa was quietly building a legacy that would extend far beyond his lifetime.

Who has impacted your life? ❤️‍🩹

These plants needed a fresh start. It has only been a few weeks since we cut these back, and they are already coming back stronger. Trust the process.

I trimmed some shoots back 12-15 inches, and that’s perfectly fine as long as you take care of your plant. Removing debris and dead berries from the base of your plant is key before fertilizing. Message us if you have questions!
