We celebrated Mother’s Day by trying a new spot in Bethesda with a memorable name—Six Ways to Sunday—currently in its soft opening phase.
The restaurant is conveniently located along the main strip and offers a thoughtfully designed space, with two distinct seating areas: one near the bar with abundant natural light, and another that feels more private and intimate. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the owners stood out for being especially engaged and receptive to feedback—always a great sign during a soft opening.
We ordered a wide variety of dishes and were impressed by the bold, well-developed flavors across the menu. Portion sizes could be slightly larger, but the quality and creativity of the dishes more than made up for it.
A few highlights:
Beef Shu Shi was the standout—beautifully crusted beef paired with a rich, flavorful red curry sauce that had a perfect balance of spice and depth. It’s a dish that begs to be enjoyed with rice.
Five Cups Duck Confit was another favorite. The duck skin was perfectly crisp, and the dish was so enjoyable that even our 5-year-old finished nearly an entire bowl.
The pork satay was a refreshing and authentic twist, especially compared to the more common chicken version seen in most U.S. Thai restaurants. It felt true to traditional flavors and was a personal highlight.
The Thai-style Brussels sprouts had a unique sweet and tangy profile. With just a bit more crispness, this dish would be exceptional.
Some dishes leaned slightly on the sweeter side, which may not align with our family—especially that we're watching our sugar intake—but the flavors were clearly intentional and well-executed.
Overall, Six Ways to Sunday offers a fresh, modern take on Thai/Asian cuisine with creative, distinctive dishes you won’t typically find elsewhere. It’s an exciting addition to the Bethesda dining scene, and I’d highly recommend giving it a try.
