🏡 House Build Series: FRAMING! 🔨

This is where our house really started looking like a HOME! 🤍 Seeing the walls go up and the roof trusses go on made everything feel a little more real. But building your home definitely comes with some BIG price tags! 😅

💰 Total framing cost, including trusses: $71,469

Would you have guessed framing would cost this much? 👀

Follow along as we continue sharing the costs of building our home in Georgia!

POV: You’re checking your flock’s fluffy butts! 🐔🍑

Did you know those fluffy chicken butts can tell you a little something about their health?

Full, well-maintained feathers can be a sign of good nutrition and normal feather condition. But don’t forget to check what’s underneath those feathers, too! A clean vent, healthy skin, and no signs of irritation are all important.

Basically, we’re looking for fluffy, feathered, happy chickens! 😂🐔

Chicken people, are you checking for fluffy butts? 👀

Before the walls go up and the house starts looking like a home, there’s one VERY expensive step you have to tackle first… the footers, foundation, and concrete slab.

Our total for this phase? $37,446.89! 💸

Almost $37,500 just to get the foundation in place! And we’re still working our way through the costs of building our home on our property here in Georgia.

We’re sharing the real numbers, the progress, and all the expenses along the way. Because building a house is exciting… but whew, those receipts are something else!

Follow along for the next part of our house build series! 🏡

Coop clean-out day! 🐔🧹 After getting everything cleaned up, I used Reliant Pet’s Poultry Spray on the roosts and in the cracks and crevices around the coop where pests can hide. Keeping the coop clean and staying on top of maintenance is part of caring for a healthy flock! 🐓🌿

POV: You hired a cat to keep the chickens off the porch… and she takes her job VERY seriously. 😂🐈🐔 Around here, even the chickens have to follow the house rules! 🤣

A good rooster knows the ladies come first. 🐓❤️

Copper making sure his girls get their fill before he gets his turn. Now THAT’S a gentleman! 😂

Another expense to add to the list before the house even starts going up! 🏡

Because we were building on a concrete slab, we needed to level and prepare the area for our house pad. Our property wasn’t exactly flat, so that meant bringing in equipment to get it ready.

💰 Cost: $5,000

One thing we’re learning with this build…there are A LOT of expenses that happen before you ever see the first wall go up!

Follow along as we share what everything is actually costing us. 👀

We thought we were getting 12 chickens… turns out we were getting 7 roosters and 5 hens. 😂🐔

As much as I would have loved to keep all of them, 7 roosters just wasn’t realistic. I wasn’t willing to build a separate rooster coop, and it wouldn’t have been fair to have that many roosters with only 5 hens.

So six found new homes, and now we have our little flock of 5 hens + 1 rooster. ❤️

Farm life is definitely teaching me that sometimes you have to make the decision that’s best for your animals, even when it’s not the easiest one.

We saw a snake in the road and thought, “Let’s be good humans and help him get somewhere safe.”

Apparently, he interpreted that as:

“Excellent. I’ll be moving into your vehicle.” 🐍

He climbed straight into the engine bay and has officially become an unexpected passenger at Rockin R Farms.

We were trying to save his life.
He was trying to give us a heart attack.

Snake: 1
Us: 0

Now accepting applications for someone who knows how to evict a snake from an engine bay. 😂
