What are you doing on this fine summer day? We are making tasty treats out of our girls delicious milk!

I am trying my hand at making yogurt in the InstantPot, while churning fresh butter from some heavy cream I pulled off milk earlier this week! The yogurt will take somewhere between 20 to 24 hours to culture, while the butter will be done before milking time tonight since I’m using my Kitchen Aid stand mixer!

Tune in tomorrow and I’ll show you the finished products! 😉

It’s always an expensive day when AgCentral shows up to the Dairy, but man are we are so thankful for them!

AgCentral is a huge farmers cooperative located in TN that services hundreds of dairies throughout the Southeast. They make the route through Alabama every 5 weeks to deliver the supplies we need to keep our dairy running. Now with Mr. Gary delivering to us, we are able to keep the appropriate detergents, acids and chlorinating products in stock with ease. Think of this dairy truck as a rolling Co-op with front door delivery! 😉

Prior to Mr. Gary delivering to us, we were struggling to keep the chemicals we needed to appropriately clean the machines in stock. We would order gallons of chemicals through our local Tractor Supply but they were having to come from much larger dairy producing states and often were re-routed or not delivered because they busted in transit. It was a nightmare at times because we never knew if we were going to get what we ordered. Mrs. Lisa at our local Co-op tried for weeks to order us large enough quantities of the supplies we needed to keep us running smoothly, but shipping in the barrels for just us was costing huge money in shipping.

Thanks to AgCentral having the appropriate cleaning supplies to keep our machines in tip top shape is easy! Now we can keep bottling the freshest milk in town!

Since jumping back into the dairy business last year, I’ve learned just how much I really missed the quiet and peacefulness of sunrises. I don’t think in the moment I realized just what I was seeing every morning…. until it was gone.

The tranquility of the early morning, watching the sun rise before the rest of the world even thinks of stirring is a gentle reminder to be thankful for each new day we are given. The only sounds were those of the girls happily chowing down and the vacuum pump bringing us fresh milk to bottle.

These peaceful mornings with my girls, on land my family has farmed for over 50 years is something I will never take for granted again.

We are here at the End of Summer Smash - Farmer’s Market hosted by the City of Chelsea, Alabama! There is live music, food trucks, produce, jewelry, breads, candies and lemonades to name a few! Of course we have our fresh milk too! 🥛

We have had a lot of milk sold today, and have more en route to us, so come on and enjoy the fun day! Come see us at the cow print tent! We are here until 2 pm!
