The voting is in, and we’ve officially picked a name for the new baby emu…

Meet Travis.

After Randy Travis, of course. 💙

Throwback to when Waylon was just 8 months old.

He had recently lost 3 pounds, stopped eating, and still wasn’t able to sit up on his own—something that wasn’t considered typical for his age.

After a week at Children’s Hospital filled with countless tests, feeding tubes, and more questions than answers, we finally got one.

Waylon was diagnosed with Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase (SSADH) Deficiency, an ultra-rare genetic disorder estimated to affect only about 1 in 1 million people worldwide.

Looking back at these photos brings back so many emotions. The fear. The uncertainty. The exhaustion. But it also reminds me of how incredibly strong this little boy has always been.

Today, Waylon continues to prove that diagnoses don’t define a person. He has faced challenges most people will never understand, yet he meets life with determination, humor, and a heart that inspires everyone around him.

Sometimes the hardest chapters become the ones that show us just how resilient we really are.

Now at 17 years old, we continue to learn alongside him. Because SSADH is so rare, there are still many unanswered questions about what life looks like for affected adults. We remain involved in research and hopeful that every new discovery will help us better understand the road ahead—not only for Waylon, but for other families walking this same journey. ❤️

If your family has been impacted by SSADH Deficiency, we’d love to hear your story. The rare disease community may be small, but it is incredibly strong. 💙💚

It’s been a while since we’ve showcased good ol’ Pegleg!

For those who may remember, Pegleg has a leg deformity and has overcome more than his fair share of challenges. Along the way, we also discovered that “she” was actually a he—and Pegleg is, in fact, a rooster! 🐓

We’re happy to report that he’s doing great. He has officially graduated to the big coop, gets around wonderfully, and keeps up with the rest of the flock just fine.

Watching him adapt and thrive has been pretty incredible. Sometimes the ones you worry about the most end up showing you just how tough they really are. ❤️

As most of y’all know, I enjoy a good challenge—even when it comes to emu DNA.

For the last year, I’ve been venting our emu chicks before sending off DNA samples, just to see if I can guess their gender correctly. It’s been a fun way to learn and sharpen my skills along the way.

This little standard baby was no different. My guess? BOY. 💙

And according to the DNA results… I was right!

A huge thank you to Knights Poultry Lab for always getting results back so quickly.

Now we need a name! Since he’s a boy, what male country singer should this little guy be named after? 🎤🐣🤠

🏖️ Some of you folks may not know this, but my parents own a beautiful lake house called Sip & Stay, tucked away in a quiet cove on Smith Lake.

If you’re looking for a place to unplug, slow down, and spend quality time with the people you love, this little slice of Alabama is hard to beat. Mornings on the dock with a cup of coffee, afternoons on the water, and evenings around the fire pit watching the sun go down—it’s the kind of place that reminds you what really matters.

The house is spacious, comfortable, and perfect for family vacations, fishing trips, girls’ weekends, or simply escaping the noise of everyday life for a few days. One of our favorite features is the easy, gentle walk to the water—no climbing a million steps just to get to the dock! That’s a rare find on Smith Lake and makes enjoying the water so much easier for everyone.

As a family, we’ve made so many memories at the lake over the years, and we’re excited that others get the opportunity to make memories there too.

👉🏼 And of course, the entire space was designed by yours truly—so if you love cozy, welcoming spaces with a little character and charm, you’ll feel right at home. 🤗

Murphy has appointed herself Head of Baby Emu Relations.

The baby emu did not vote for this position.

Fun fact: Baby emus can grow up to a foot taller every month during their first few months of life. They go from fluffy little fuzzballs to towering teenagers surprisingly fast!
