It is hard to beat the scenery of Spring. Just finished setting up our May AI cows. Paused to look around, and in the distance our pasture of promising replacement heifers are grazing and learning to be cows, in the foreground, our latest calves are bedded down with their “babysitter” nearby.

Need to remember these days when August rolls around and it’s too hot to breathe!

We are just wrapping up the spring weaning season. One of the final steps is deciding what goes to Iowa and on feed verse what stays here as candidates for replacement. We kept 18 promising heifers - 14 of which (including the lady in the photo) are from our polled Wagyu bull.

Definately excited about his calves!

Wagyu Beef by the Side

Hey folks – we are getting ready to take our spring weaned calves to Iowa, so like we have posted here before, rather than return with empty trailers, we like to bring back finished steers that are ready for local consuption! That means we are taking reservations now for sides of beef that will be available in May.

These sides come from Wagyu calves that were born and raised on our farm and then finished in Iowa by A to Z Feeders under our retained ownership program. A to Z are pros at feeding Wagyu cattle and this beef is otherwise destined for those high-end restaurants you see that have Wagyu on their menus. The picture of New York strips on this post was sent to us from a customer that purchased a side last fall.

Our sides are priced by the hanging weight, and while we don’t know the exact weight until after slaughter, you can expect these to weigh in the 350 – 450 lb range. The price will be $4.50/lb payable to us, and then you will be responsible for the processor’s fees of approximately $1/lb depending on your options. You can safely expect to receive 50% of the hanging weight as packaged beef in your freezer.

One of the neat things about buying a whole side of beef is the flexibility you get in determining how it is packaged. You are in control of all the options. The steers from this load will be processed at Southern Integrity Meats in Cullman.

If you have any questions about the process or want to reserve a side, just message us with your e-mail and we can help.

The deadline to reserve a side is April 19.

If you miss this chance and want to be sure to hear about the next one, just let us know.

More fencing projects this week! Getting some posts in the ground ahead of today’s expected storms.

Some electric trucks get an easy urban life … others have to earn their keep! Mine spends a lot of time off the asphalt.

Gotta say I love my RT1 from Rivian. Pulls like a diesel, off-roads like a side-by-side UTV, accelerates like a drag racer. Everything they promised.

Is there anything more satisfying than putting the finishing touches on a new fencing project?!?

Fun couple of afternoons working with the new mulcher head to reclaim a lost pasture.

Hard to explain how satisfying it is to go from the before picture to the after ones!

Not fast, but super effective.

Goodness it has been a while since I posted here…

Took this cool picture during our first hay cutting of this year. That’s David stacking hay from the last load of the day in the barn … by the light of the rising moon!

Fullblood Wagyu sires - $2500 each

I have two Fullblood Wagyu sires available for sale. Our policy is to use the bulls on our cows for 2 years and then to sell them as 4 year-olds with many years of service available to the next owner.

We run two breeding periods (3 month each) per year and these bulls are about to come out of the pasture (Feb 6) and are immediately available.

The first bull is WFW Bama K RedStar 46D (FB27187). He is a black/red cross with big names on his pedigree from both the black and red side. We believe that the using a black/red cross brings the frame and size from the red Wagyu but retains the marbling of the blacks. We raised him from an embryo from our best donor cow (LMR Ms Kenichi 3401A) and the outstanding red sire Kalanga Red Star. I wish I had a 100 of this mating. If you put faith in the SCD/Tenderness tests, he is a AA/6. He is 4 1/2 years old - we used him for one extra season because I wanted more of his calves on the ground.

The second bull is WFW Ala Red Emperor 52E (FB34485). He is also a black/red cross. This is an embryo I purchased from another breeder and features ESF Michifuku 614-029 as the dam and another famous red bull, Heart Brand Red Emperor as the sire. Again, lots of Wagyu superstars in his pedigree. He is 3 1/2 years old.

Both bulls are guaranteed sound and some reasonable delivery is negotiable. Have a look at these bulls!
