Eight ribbons MV Agricultural Society’s 164th annual Livestock Show & Fair last weekend: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th placed female and male swine under a year old. Going on 5 years in a row as the Vineyard’s most decorated pig farmer! The eight spotted female and striped male hogs I brought out of the 30 total ate well (including leftover kale for the fair volunteers and corn from the shucking competition), took plenty of post-meal naps, & enjoyed visits inside their pen from curious kids of all ages. Their grunts (& an interview) made the MVYRADIO. The piggies made sure to cool off in the swimming pools, too.

PORK AVAILABLE! I sell whole pigs where you get to choose how you want it cut up, with cuts such as chops, bacon, & ground pork

- Sustainable pork from pigs raised on food scraps (that would have otherwise been thrown out) instead of corn/grain/soy hog feed that needed to be shipped to the island
- You are what you eat and these pigs thrive on REAL food: scrambled eggs, cheese, apples, grapes, avocados, peaches, lettuce ends, broccoli stems, cucumbers, tomatoes, and cabbage (their favorites this year!)
- Instead of being raised on concrete on factory farms where they are deprived of their natural rooting behavior, these pigs have acres of shaded woods to roam and root up plus wallows and pools to keep them cool — living the good life!
- Fill your freezer with delicious pork so you have meat available for the entire year

While refilling the pigs’ 85gal waterer with the hose, this pig came over for some attention so I knelt down (while still holding the hose in the container) to offer some scratches. This piggy will be the Ag Fair next week for good reason… to request more pats from the fairgoers.

The 15 stops I make to collect food scraps (12 daily pickups plus 3 extras). I couldn’t raise my pigs without them — I depend on each restaurant, grocery store, bakery, & food establishment for food scraps so I can grow my 30 pigs. A couple places are waterfront and only one has a famous back door, but can you identify any of them by my access point?
