Let me tell you something that’s been sitting heavy on my heart.

I’ve heard the chatter, “Don’t buy Hatch Chiles this year, it’s been too cool and wet in New Mexico. The peppers won’t be as good.”

To that I say, you’re what I call a fair-weather friend. Do you know what that means? It means you only show up when things are good, when the harvest is perfect, when the conditions are ideal.

But let me give you a wake up call: this hasn’t been a good year for ANY farmers in America. Not in Oklahoma. Not in New Mexico. Not anywhere.

And yet, we are STILL showing up. STILL farming. STILL feeding people. STILL driving 1400 miles round trip to support our farmer partners because they deserve it, and because YOU deserve it too.

The farmer I work with in Hatch, New Mexico, the one I trust with everything, he says it’s still worth it. So I believe him. Because farmers know their fields better than any backseat buyer ever will.

As a farmer myself, I’m telling you this: if you only support us when the harvest is perfect, you’ll wake up one day and there won’t be any of us left to support.

I’ve never seen so many farmers walk out of markets with crates of unsold produce.

So if you needed a sign to show up for your local farmer, rain or shine, bumper crop or hard season, this is it.

We don’t need fair-weather friends.
We need lifers.
We need believers.
We need YOU.

No farmers, no food, that’s not a slogan. That’s a fact. -Emily
