HONEY BEES IN CRISIS.
So many victims of Hurricane Helene and the resulting flooding.
And that includes honey bees.
Did you know an estimated 60,000 beehives have been damaged or destroyed throughout Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
The surviving bees are in danger of starving because the vegetation they survive on has been wiped out by the flooding.
Greater Good Charities online has started an effort to help.
Among other things distributing pollen substitute to beekeepers to help feed their livestock.
Yes, bees are considered livestock.
And, they are crucial to agriculture.
For instance -- to pollinating blueberries, almond, strawberry, melon and even orange crops across the region.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT AND HELP HONEY BEES.

THIS IS IMPORTANT, not bee related, but important. As a 100% disabled veteran that resides in Virginia, I am disgusted with the Virginia General Assembly right now. With the careless swipe of a pen, our governor just took away a promised BENEFIT for children of Gold Star Families ( this means mom or dad DIED in service) and permanently disabled veterans over 90%. This program was NOT NEEDS BASED, therefore FAFSA does not apply, however they are using that to deny this benefit. This swipe of a pen takes away this benefit, effective immediately, as the expected family contribution is exactly how much this would have covered. Start making phone calls, sending emails and sign this petition!

We have caught so many swarms these last two weeks! The bee yard has grown so fast! We even had a swarm move into an empty box all on its own. This little guy is starting his own hive this year!
