This season we have decided to be more self-sustaining and varied ( Shane is still growing a few peppers). We have selected crops that our neighbors enjoy, so that we can trade. It was a bit of trial and error to not plant what they planted! We are trying Brussel sprouts for the first time! What have you all decided to plant this season?

Today’s crop heading to Martin's Island Produce!
We have :
Sante Fe Grande- the smaller white to red ones. They are mild and great on salads, pickled like jalapeños, in relish, or just snacking!
Hungarian wax are the longer yellow to orange peppers- great for sautée and cooking. We love them finely chopped in cream cheese-then stimuffed into chicken for baking.
Giant white and golden Habaneros-salsas, hot sauce, cooking, or spicing up cocktails!
Top hats- very mild and sweet pepper. Thin walled and fun on sandwiches, sautéed or in salads.
Cayenne - Stir fry’s, hot sauces, soups, medicine, or string them up to dry and powder! The powder of hot peppers is great for keeping deer off of your plants.
In there are poblano peppers- big green deliciousness! Stuff with cheese, bread and fry them up for a eye rolling treat!

Some spicy meatballs! Scorpions decided to show up this year. Better late than never!

Hey all! I was asked to post how I make basic hot sauce with my Cayenne’s.
Just Right Red
1/2 lb Cayenne peppers
1/2 cup of sweet red pepper (Carmen or Jimmy N are my favorite, but Bell work)
1 cup Distilled White Vinegar
1 teaspoon of Himalaya salt
6 cloves of garlic ( or equal to 6 man thumb size).
@1/2 cup water

Medium pot- throw everything in and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring just enough to have salt dissolve. This softens pepper fibers and mixes flavors.
Pour everything into a blender and blend everything until you have mash. Pour contents into a bowl with a good metal screen filter. The screen should capture the mash. Gently press the mash to get out all of the fluid. This is your hot sauce!
Reserve mash and dry then powder for a unique tasting hot wing powder!
Put hot sauce into a clean container and store in fridge for up to a month. If it lasts!
