One other point about which I am an unregenerated sceptic has to do with the way someone might say, “This horse has too much talent for me. He should be with some rider who can do him justice.”
Now, all manner of anthropomorphism notwithstanding, I defy you to find a horse who wakes up in the morning to think, “Oh rats, my talent is being wasted by my current rider. My dream in life is to work my butt off with a better rider so that I can win a gold medal and stand proudly while listening to my country’s national anthem.” Or anything similar.
Horses are horses. Their ways are not human ways. If you or someone you know has a gifted horse that some ambitious rider is trying to get her greasy little paws on by feeding you some line about “giving the horse the chance to fulfil its destiny,” tell her your horse is just fine with you.
Destiny, fame, glory, these are human concepts. I am well aware that there are some people who will choose to believe that “MY horse loves to yada yada yada,” but there are plenty of people who choose to believe lots of things that are not true.
(We will see if someone does the “but MY horse” thing here----)
