Sunbird Farms is small, family farm in Central California, committed to saving the world...well, at least some part of it. Think of us as a "boutique" preservation holding, offering poultry and produce that have a special quality and place in the world. In our dual-purpose chickens, we work toward what we call the "Standard of Production." That perfect combination of historical structure and effic
ient, flavorful meat and eggs. It is our goal to preserve these qualities for future generations, securing the unique landscape and complex flavors of our heritage food. Many of our selections can be found on Slow Food's Ark of Taste. At Sunbird farms, we care about our birds. We raise them on organic pasture in the wonderful sunshine of California, nature's best medicine. They are hand-selected, in small quantities, from the best sources available. Quality is the top consideration. For that reason, we have been lucky enough to attract discerning customers, and we are delighted to fill their orders. We offer chicks, hens and eggs, when available. We also explore the garden, growing our own produce without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Some call it organic, we just call it natural. Each season we try to find a few things to add to our "Ark of Taste;" it's always an adventure. We have small raised beds, a few fruit trees, and pasture for the chicks. Oh yes, and about 17 acres of walnuts, which are now in their third generation of family care. They make a great covered pasture in our hot California summers. As Garrison Keillor said, we're "happy to be here." Our chief chicken -raiser, Brice Yocum, is a third-generation walnut grower, a professor of Business and a licensed attorney. He likes to think of himself as the gentleman farmer, his family thinks of him as the guy with too many irons in the fire. Feel free to send Brice a note or any of us here at Sunbird Farms.
