You know you’ve been showing livestock a while when just shopping for new shoes brings out a discussion of how “One places over two for its advantages in toe box width, traction control, they feel more like my sneakers.” 😂🤪

Marcy then and now. Predictions?

2025 - Last year she was big. So big that we induced her early because she was experiencing ketosis and difficulty breathing. Unfortunately 2 of her 5 kids were stillborn.

2026 - This year Marcy is even BIGGER! (I didn't think that was possible.) Thankfully she is handling this pregnancy much better because induction isn't really a possibility as I'm not positive on her breeding date. I believe she is just a few days away from her "safe" window, the 10-day window where her babies should be developed enough to safely join the world. She's known for going earlier in that 10-day window so I'm hoping this year she keeps to that plan. How many do you think are in there?

The things we do for our animals. Paprika came to live with us last summer and hated our milk stand from day 1. In her defense, it is alot taller than most milk stands, however, when it's milking time she looks at it as if we're asking her to free climb El Capitan as the storm clouds are rolling in. Given her choice, she would stay at base camp indefinitely. So, we go together. Twice a day we set out together on a journey to ascend this insurmountable obstacle. And twice a day we must also make the treacherous descent together as once she is up there she freezes in place at the shear height of it. I think it's time to give this monolith a name so it can be recorded in the annals of Creekside history if, and when, Paprika ever makes her first solo climb. What should we name this great mountain??

Beached whale alert! According to my calendar, Marcy isn't due until late March/early April. I'm really hoping I got my dates wrong because she is HUGE! Last year we had to induce her 10 days early because she was so big it was causing ketosis and difficulty breathing. She delivered 5 babies, though unfortunately, two didn't survive. So hoping for a safe end-of-pregnancy and delivery for my Marcy girl this year. So far, so good! 🤞

Introduction time! Meet Voyager 1!

This little man was born late in the hours of a cold February 4th to our own Algarin's Kennedy. It was a difficult birth and he was a little slow to get started at life, so he spent the first two weeks romping around our living room and getting his temps regulated. On Saturday he moved out to our new dedicated baby pen and has been LOVING the freedom ever since. (Don't worry, he isn't alone, he has a cute friend we will introduce to you soon!)

Voyager 1 will be available as a wether late in the spring after weaning. If registered, he will need to be DNA tested to determine paternity. His dam's genetic line is known for being incredibly loving, mild-mannered, and fast growing. They make great pack goats! PM if interested.

We're always trying to improve our facilities here. ('Facilities' makes it sound WAY more professional than it is.) This area here has housed horses, bucks, birthing mamas, and now it will be a dedicated baby pen.

A new floor was installed - I don't recommend trying to level frozen ground by hand in -5 degree January temperatures!
Walls were insulated against the wind.
Baby warming barrel installed.
New hay feeder design.

Now we just need babies - Oh, wait, we have some! Introductions coming soon!

The pregnant girl line up. Although it’s hard to see here, it is fun to see how they each carry differently.
Vicky (far right) carries high and wide.
Marcy (2nd from left) carries deep and low.
Alaska (far left) would be that lady everyone hates with the cute little basketball belly that only shows when at a certain angle.
Patience (2nd from right) is so long bodied that I only know she’s pregnant because the test came back positive.
Lots of babies coming soon!

Welcome to 2026! What do you envision for your New Year?

I'm working on solidifying our goals and resolutions for the new year; making goals that are actually attainable is not my forte! That said, keeping you all more up to date and engaged is one of them that I'm sure we can make happen together. Keep an eye out over the coming days and weeks for a little more insight into how Creekside got its start.

What are some of your hopes, dreams, and wishes for the coming year? Drop a line or a picture below and let us help keep each other accountable!

Exciting news to share! After a 4 year hiatus, this lovely lady, Little Orchard V Patience, has decided to have kids again!

After a very difficult kidding in 2022 we gave her a year off to heal and recover. Unfortunately, despite repeated attempts, multiple bucks, countless medications and untold interventions, we have not been able to get her to settle (become pregnant) since. I had just resigned myself to the fact that she was now a pasture ornament.

On a whim, I took her to the New York State Fair this year as a dry aged doe just to get a judge's opinion on her even though she didn't have an udder to show off. The judge's comments were positive, especially regarding the strength she still shows in her body, feet, and legs as a 7-year-old. His wish? That she had an udder, because unfortunately, without one she gets placed at the back of the pack (rightfully so in the show ring).

She must have been listening (and also must have enjoyed her State Fair experience) because here we are, astounded to announce: blood tests have confirmed that she is pregnant and due to kid in late February!

Her babies will be DNA'ed because she's been living with both our bucks in the hopes that something like this exact scenario would happen. My guess though, is that she's bred to Little Orchard F Phoenix as our other guy is only 7 months old and pretty small for her (if you get my meaning 😉).

Here's to a safe and healthy pregnancy and kidding for this wonderful girl aptly named - Patience!
