Backwoods Poultry Working to preserve historic and endangered poultry breeds. We currently have a line of Heritage Rhode Island Reds from the Reese Mohawk line.

Here at Backwoods Poultry our commitment is to have happy healthy chickens and to preserve as many heritage and endangered chicken breeds as possible. We carry a small variety of standard and bantam chickens, but our ultimate goal is to carry a variety of heritage breeds and rare or endangered poultry breeds. Their history can be traced back to the original line for more than 90 years. We also participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan and are certified AI clean.

A Farmers Poem by Connetta Jean

“I don’t like Poetry”
Said the husband to the wife..
“I've no time for such things
I live a Farmers life”
But the wife said “dear husband”
“you live a poets poem’
do you not reap the harvest
of seeds by which you've sown?
I've seen you bow your head in thanks
when God answered prayers for rain
I've seen your eyes shine with pride
with every baby calf you name”
” I guess poetry's okay” he said
